Durante a competição, Thiago atuou nos quatro jogos do time, porém todos vindo do banco no segundo tempo.

138 touches, lost the ball 23x: Chelsea star was just as bad as Disasi

Chelsea were knocked out of the League Cup on Wednesday night after they travelled from Stamford Bridge to St. James’ Park to lose 2-0 to Newcastle United.

The Blues had beaten Eddie Howe’s men 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday on their own turf, but could not complete a double over the Magpies.

A composed finish from Alexander Isak, after an error in midfield gifted the ball back to Newcastle, and an own goal from Axel Disasi sealed the victory for the away side.

Enzo Maresca selected Disasi in the right-full-back position, with Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoit Badiashile in the middle, and the Frenchman endured a difficult evening.

Axel Disasi's performance in numbers

The biggest talking point about his performance is, of course, the own goal that made it 2-0 to Newcastle before the end of the first-half, which turned out to be the last goal of the evening.

It was somewhat unfortunate in the sense that the first ball is not dealt with by his teammates and the ball dropped into a dangerous position between him and Filip Jorgensen, but he simply did not sort his feet out to make the clearances and sliced it into his own net.

Axel Disasi

Aside from that error, Disasi also lost four of his six duels and was dribbled past once, which shows that he struggled with his physical battles against Joelinton – who played on the left flank for the Magpies.

He did, however, create two chances for his teammates and the former Monaco man was far from the only underperformer on the pitch for the Blues, as captain Enzo Fernandez was just as bad as him.

Enzo Fernandez's performance in numbers

Handed the armband for the game, the World Cup winner produced a disappointing display in the middle of the park with his lack of creativity and quality in possession.

Enzo Fernandez for Chelsea

Whilst it was an error from Renato Veiga to produce a sloppy pass under pressure for the opening goal, Sandro Tonali was on the front foot ahead of Fernandez, who put his arms up in the air to call for a foul rather than challenging for the ball.

The Evening Standard handed him a rating of 3/10 for his performance, referencing that incident as part of their reasoning, and criticised his lack of leadership in the first-half when Newcastle scored their two goals.

As you can see in the table above, Fernandez had plenty of opportunities to make things happen on the ball, with a whopping 138 touches, but lost the ball 23 times and only created one chance.

His failure to create a single ‘big chance’ from 138 touches and eight attempted crosses illustrates his lack of quality in the final third, and he set the tone for himself early on with a wayward long switch on his weak foot that went straight out of play for a throw-in.

Therefore, Fernandez was just as bad as Disasi, as he was a liability in the midfield with his loose play, and Maresca will be hoping for far better from both players moving forward.

Mark Wood set to replace injured Tymal Mills against South Africa

Wood comes through training unscathed after ankle issue that has kept him out of tournament

Mark Wood looks set to replace Tymal Mills in the England team for their final T20 World Cup Super 12s fixture against South Africa on Saturday after coming through Thursday’s training session in Sharjah unscathed.Wood reported a niggle in his ankle after England’s final warm-up game against New Zealand, which required an injection, and has not played any part in the tournament to date. He did not warm up with the rest of the squad ahead of Monday’s 26-run win over Sri Lanka, during which Mills picked up the thigh injury which has ruled him out of the tournament, and is likely to play against South Africa this weekend if he trains as planned on Friday.Paul Collingwood, England’s assistant coach, said that Wood represents an “ideal replacement” for Mills if he is declared fully fit, particularly given the low bounce of Sharjah’s pitches since the square was relaid ahead of this year’s IPL.Related

Zampa five-for and aggressive batting give Australia massive NRR boost in big win over Bangladesh

“What seems to have been difficult to play in Sharjah is the real fast, skiddy bowlers that bash the wicket from about eight metres and try to hit the top of the stumps and get a little bit of variable bounce there,” Collingwood said. “If Woody was 100% fit then he’s the type of bowler you would look for on that surface.”It did seem to make it a lot more difficult when the dew came down, I have to say. I was expecting a lot more variable bounce in that second innings but the dew certainly had an effect on the wicket. Woody would be the ideal replacement if he was 100% fit. As long as he comes through these next two sessions, I’d hope he’d be available for selection.”Mills was expensive in England’s last two games against Australia and Sri Lanka but remains their joint-highest wicket-taker in the World Cup to date, and offered an attractive combination of a left-arm angle, high pace through the middle overs, and a world-class record bowling at the death in franchise leagues. He has been replaced in the squad by Reece Topley, the tall left-arm seamer.”It’s a big loss,” Collingwood said. “It looked an innocuous kind of injury, really, so it’s a huge loss in terms of the point of difference that it gives, obviously the left arm angle. He can bowl at 90mph+ and has got some great T20 experience under his belt with franchise cricket that he’s played, so it’s a huge loss for us, but another person’s gain with Reece Topley coming into the side – again, [he offers a] left-arm angle and has got more height than most bowlers.”We’ll see where the guys are over the next 48 hours in terms of training. Stats right from the start of T20 cricket show that the left-arm angle goes pretty well in the back end of the innings, so it’s always good to have that option. We’re a very versatile attack – with different heights, different skills, different angles. The more bowlers that you can have that are different I guess the better, so batters can’t line you up as a bowling attack. We do have options.”If Wood is not risked ahead of two knockout games next week, England’s alternatives would be David Willey, Tom Curran and Topley, all of whom offer different skillsets. The current balance of their side – with only three seamers – forces them to bowl at least eight overs of spin, and their experiences trying to defend a score with a wet ball against Sri Lanka may tempt them to consider leaving out a batter in favour of a fourth seamer.Collingwood also said that the England squad were “keeping a close eye” on developments in Azeem Rafiq’s allegations of institutional racism at Yorkshire, and stressed the importance of ensuring their dressing room was “a place that everyone wants to be”.”Obviously we’ve seen it in the news,” he said. “Of course, when something as big as this is in the news, you have a chat about it. From our point of view, it’s important that what we’ve created in the England dressing room over the last few years with our culture… we’ve done a lot of work in our dressing room to make it a place that everyone wants to be.”There’s an ongoing investigation back home so I can’t comment too much on that but we’ve just got to get on with the cricket out here… hopefully we can let the cricket do the talking. We’ve really worked hard over the last few years on the courage, respect and unity that we have in the dressing room and that’s a motto that we live by. [We need to] keep trying to learn, understand and get better.”

"What’s going on?" – Clement slammed for treatment of "incredible" Rangers gem

Philippe Clement’s use of an “incredible” Rangers player has left pundit Michael Stewart baffled, leaving him to admit he doesn’t understand what’s going on at Ibrox currently.

Clement feeling the heat at Rangers

The Gers may have won 2-1 at home to St Mirren on Sunday, but there is no question that Clement is still fighting hard to save his job. It was far from the most convincing of performances, and to only narrowly beat a struggling side at home is nothing to write home about.

A far bigger test of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership title credentials arrives on Wednesday evening, with the Scottish giants making the trip to an Aberdeen side who are currently level on points with Celtic at the top of the table, only trailing them on goal difference.

Defeat at Pittodrie could even prove to be fatal for Clement, considering it would leave them nine points behind the Dons, and likely Celtic as well, considering Brendan Rodgers’ side host eighth-place Dundee on Wednesday.

There are plenty of supporters who feel that the Belgian is doing lots wrong in his job currently, from tactics to team selection, and some further criticism has now come his way.

Stewart baffled by use of "incredible" Rangers ace

Speaking on The Scottish Football Social Club [via Ibrox News], Stewart admitted his confusion at how Rangers boss Clement has used Dujon Sterling of late.

“I just don’t understand what’s going on with Sterling. When you look at the back end of last season, he was a must-play anywhere on the park starter. One of the first names on the sheet, wherever it was, you just had to find a space for him.

“Now, with all the troubles with Rangers have got, he’s not getting a sniff anywhere. I just don’t get it.”

Rangers midfielder Dujon Sterling.

It does seem odd that Sterling has been so underused by Clement this season, with only two starts and five substitute appearances coming his way in the Scottish Premiership, totalling only 254 minutes. The Englishman has found it hard to find any rhythm since the start of the campaign, given the manner in which he has been used.

Sterling is a talented and versatile midfielder who has proven his worth to Rangers in the past, making 48 appearances to date, winning the Scottish League Cup last season and being hailed by Andy Halliday.

Clement surely has to be considering the idea of playing Sterling more regularly, starting against Aberdeen, but he does seem to have decided that he doesn’t consider him a key man this season.

Big PictureBangladesh will look to bridge the gap in experience, skills and temperament with Pakistan, who have so far looked to be in control on this tour, when the two teams meet for the first Test in Chattogram on Friday. The 3-0 series win in Dhaka didn’t just show the difference in the two teams’ T20 skillset, but also their overall moods. Pakistan seem more organised and clear in thinking while Bangladesh cricket is in disarray. The only saving grace for the home side is the change in format, although Pakistan too would be glad to take a break after a period of busy T20 cricket.Pakistan’s middle order has to be assertive as they struggle to put together an opening combination. Azhar Ali and captain Babar Azam lend class and experience while Mohammad Rizwan and Fawad Alam tend to consistently contribute valuable runs lower down the order. Babar and Rizwan’s success in opening in T20Is will need to be translated into middle-order dependency in Tests.Related

Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Rejaur Rahman Raja the new faces in Bangladesh Test squad

Imam-ul-Haq and Abid Ali will be Pakistan’s opening pair – the Abid-Imran Butt opened in their last six Tests. The 22-year-old Abdullah Shafique, who has struck two centuries in three first-class matches, is an interesting inclusion in the 12-player squad that was announced on Thursday.Pakistan will have Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali to take up the new ball with Faheem Ashraf being considered the pace-bowling allround option at No 7. Left-arm spinner Nauman Ali and offspinner Sajid Khan, who made his debut earlier this year against Zimbabwe, will be the likely spinners.Bangladesh will look at captain Mominul Haque and the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim to do the heavy-lifting for the batting line-up. The hosts will be without the injured Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan, and the recently-retired Mahmudullah, which will be a huge void to fill in.Top-order batters Shadman Islam and Najmul Hossain Shanto have to tackle Pakistan’s new-ball force before the experienced Mominul and Mushfiqur come in. There might be a debut on the offing for both Yasir Ali and Mahmudul Hasan Joy, with Liton Das coming in at No 7. Yasir has been warming the bench for some time now after being in all the squads for the Tests this year, while Joy, who has mostly batted at No 3, was picked on the back of a promising domestic return where he hit back-to-back first-class centuries recently.Bangladesh will mostly go with seven batters with Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the main spinners. Both have been in good form in domestic cricket lately and will be expected to bowl the bulk of the overs in Shakib’s absence. However, their pace attack seems to be lean as only Abu Jayed has been in some kind of rhythm. Rejaur Rahman Raja, the surprise pick in the Test squad, could be handed a debut after getting rave reviews from high-performance bowling coach Champaka Ramanayake. Form guide Bangladesh WLDLL

In the spotlight Pakistan will look at Shaheen Shah Afridi</a to lead the bowling attack and give early breakthroughs. Afridi may not find a lot of help from the Chattogram pitch which usually assists spinners, but he should use the breeze that blows across the ground.Najmul Hossain Shanto scored two hundreds in Bangladesh's last three Tests, against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka respectively, and also made a first-class century recently. Despite being in form, Shanto could be troubled by Pakistan's quality fast bowlers. His role at No. 3 will be crucial for Bangladesh. Team news Bangladesh are considering as many as three Test debutants in this game. Mominul has hinted that Joy may open while Yasir is a strong candidate at No 6. Rookie fast bowler Raja may also play ahead of Ebadot Hossain.Bangladesh (probable): 1 Shadman Islam 2 Mahmudul Hasan Joy, 3 Najmul Hossain Shanto, 4 Mominul Haque (capt), 5 Mushfiqur Rahim, 6 Yasir Ali, 7 Liton Das (wk), 8 Taijul Islam, 9 Mehidy Hasan Miraz, 10 Abu Jayed, 11 Ebadot Hossain/Rejaur Rahman RajaSajid Khan could partner Nauman Ali in the spin attack, which would leave batter Shafique out of Pakistan's XI. They are without Imran Butt, who was dropped from the squad, and Mohammad Abbas, from their last Test against West Indies.Pakistan (probable): 1 Imam-ul-Haq, 2 Abid Ali, 3 Azhar Ali 4 Babar Azam (capt), 5 Fawad Alam, 6 Mohammad Rizwan (wk), 7 Faheem Ashraf, 8 Nauman Ali, 9 Hasan Ali, 10 Shaheen Shah Afridi, 11 Sajid Khan Pitch and conditions West Indies successfully chased 395 runs in the fourth innings in the last Chattogram Test, which suggests that the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury pitch will generally hold up for the entire five days. Temperatures are expected to be mild. Stats and trivia Abbas is ten wickets short of completing 100 Test wickets. Yasir has already taken six catches as a substitute fielder before making his international debut. Quotes "It is a challenge for a young captain like me to head into the new WTC cycle with a young team. We have always required senior players on the Test side. Shakib , Tamim and Taskin are regular players. But it is a continuous process. We have to move on. We cannot be disappointed all the time. I firmly believe it is a huge opportunity for the younger players."

Sheffield Wednesday handed double injury boost before Sheffield United

Sheffield Wednesday are preparing for a huge Championship clash with Sheffield United this weekend, and a big double injury update has emerged in the build-up.

Steel City derby on deck as Owls find form

In midweek, the Owls delivered a much-needed response to their shock 6-2 defeat at home to Watford last Saturday, winning 2-0 against Norwich City at Hillsborough. It leaves Danny Rohl’s side sitting 15th in the table after the latest round of action, with a massive occasion now lying on the horizon with a chance to make it three wins in four league games.

Wednesday face their biggest match of the season so far on Sunday lunchtime, as they make the short trip to Bramall Lane to take on bitter rivals United, with the Blades in second place and looking like strong promotion contenders.

It is the first Steel City derby since back in March 2019, due to the Owls spending time in League One and their adversaries enjoying stints in the Premier League, and the whole of Sheffield is holding its breath ahead of a much-anticipated 90 minutes.

Wednesday are understandably the underdogs going into the game, given the respective league positions of both, and the fact that they are the away side, but Rohl will know that he and his players can etch their names into derby folklore with a win. Ahead of the match, an important injury update has emerged.

Key injury update as Wednesday duo return to training

Speaking in his pre-derby press conference on Friday, Rohl confirmed that Sheffield Wednesday pair Nathaniel Chalobah and Michael Ihiekwe are both back on the training pitch again, following respective injury absences.

While neither Chalobah or Ihiekwe are expected to feature for Wednesday this weekend, having them slowly edging towards a return to the pitch is a huge boost, during a relentless season where squad depth is essential as the months pass.

Chalobah hasn’t played a single minute of action in the Championship since securing a summer move to the Owls from West Brom during the summer transfer window, with his only appearance to date coming in the 5-1 win away to Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup.

As for Ihiekwe, having him back feels significant, considering what an important member of Rohl’s defence was during the 2023/24 season, appearing 26 times in the league. He hasn’t featured since late September, however, highlighting why Wednesday will need to ease him back in, rather than rush his return and risk injuring him further.

Hopefully, the pair will be close to a first-team return after the international break, using the next week or two to further build their fitness, before being available for the remainder of the campaign.
