Zafar Gohar, the Pakistan left-arm spinner, will return to Gloucestershire for the 2022 season, as the club prepare for their first Division One campaign since 2005.Gohar collected 20 wickets at a cost of 14.35 in four Championship games earlier this year – including a match haul of 11 for 101 against Durham – as Gloucestershire finished second in Division Two.He will be available on a pay-as-you-play basis from next April, before moving on to a full contract for August and September, with Will Brown, Gloucestershire’s chief executive, suggesting the club were “on the cusp of something really special” after bringing in Gohar alongside Australia opener Marcus Harris to fill their overseas spots.”The signing of Zafar is another great moment for the club,” Brown said. “We feel like we’re on the cusp of something really special with the squad we’re assembling and we’re confident of being able to challenge for silverware in 2022.”Zafar was a big hit with supporters at the back end of last season and we’re confident that he’ll be able to make important contributions for The Shire once again next season across all formats, including the County Championship, where we’ll be playing against the best cricketers in the country in Division One.”Related

It emerged this week that Leeds are interested in signing James McAtee on loan from Manchester City in the New Year.

The Whites have been linked with a move for the creative midfielder before, and a new report has revealed that the interest from Leeds remains the same. The Whites are looking to take McAtee on loan in January, as the Blues are willing to sanction a temporary departure, given his lack of game time under Pep Guardiola this season.

However, Leeds are not the only team interested in the England under-21 international, so it could be a race to win his signature when January arrives. Despite that, a YouTuber and Leeds fan has reacted to the news that the club want to sign McAtee in the New Year.

YouTuber and Leeds supporter McGilligan took to X to react to the news of Leeds wanting to sign McAtee in January. The 22-year-old has remained with City this season after doing ever so well while on loan at Sheffield United this season.

But so far, McAtee has played just six times in all competitions, and only one of those has come in the Premier League. Therefore, speculation has led to teams looking at signing McAtee in January, with Leeds looking into a potential loan deal.

That is something that McGilligan believes would be the signing of the transfer window, as he wrote on X: “Probably be the signing of the window. But can you have him, Piroe, and Aaronson all competing at points for the 10 role?”

Leeds are a side that already has plenty of attacking options, especially in that number 10 position, but Farke may feel McAtee can offer something different to what the other players bring to the table now.

However, as stated before, there are plenty of other teams interested, Nottingham Forest being one side chasing McAtee, and a report stated that City could accept permanent offers in excess of £20 million, making a deal more difficult to do for Leeds if that is the case. As well as Forest chasing the midfielder, other Premier League teams such as Fulham, Leicester City, and Southampton are also interested in McAtee.

An earthquake off the coast of Port of Spain sent mild tremors through the Queen’s Park Oval on Saturday while Zimbabwe were batting against Ireland at the Under-19 World Cup. It had no impact on play, but the commentators mentioned the tremors they experienced during the live broadcast.Ireland spinner Matthew Humphreys was bowling the fifth bowl of the sixth over to Brian Bennett when the front-on camera showing the action began to shake furiously. Play was not halted as Bennett played a defensive shot to mid-off, and then dispatched the next ball to the boundary.Andrew Leonard, the ICC commentator calling the action, said as soon as the camera began to wobble: “We are… I believe we are having an earthquake right now. In the box. We are indeed having an earthquake (laughs). It felt like not just a train going by behind us, but the whole Queen’s Park Oval media centre rocked.” The earthquake did not impact the broadcast either in any other way.
