Sam Konstas has continued his encouraging return to run-scoring form as New South Wales claimed a 341-run Sheffield Shield win over Queensland.Fresh off a first Shield century in 14 months in NSW’s first innings on Friday, Konstas returned to the crease at the SCG on Sunday and made a purposeful 53.The axed Test opener brought up his half century off 53 balls before edging Mitchell Swepson to Hugh Weibgen at first slip.Konstas scored three fours in what was his second best return of the Shield season to date, but the pick of his shots was when he slogged Swepson for six over deep mid-wicket.The 20-year-old, who garnered plenty of attention for his stunning debut in Test cricket last year, appeared to be playing with greater confidence and poise.Konstas’ encouraging knock on day three put NSW on course for victory after the Blues had bowled Queensland out for 92 earlier in the day.The under-strength Bulls had finished day two in a heap after falling to 67 for 7.Swepson was the first Queenslander to fall on Sunday when Charlie Stobo claimed his fifth wicket of the innings and when they were all out the Bulls trailed by 379 runs.The breathing room gave the Blues’ top order a chance to add runs quickly with Konstas top-scoring.Lachlan Shaw finished with 30 not out off 33 balls before NSW declared on 143 for 4, leaving Queensland a target of 523 to win.But Queensland hardly got going with only Hugo Burdon (59) putting up any form of resistance at the top of the order.Burdon was eventually trapped lbw by Tanveer Sangha but NSW had to work to put away Swepson as he led Queensland’s final-wicket partnership with Benji Floros.Swepson (40) was caught when he sliced a Liam Hatcher delivery to Kurtis Patterson at deep third as Queensland were dismissed for 181.

O Flamengo solicitou à CBF a desconvocação do meia Lorran, pois não gostaria de perder o jogador durante o período da preparação para o jogo contra a equipe de Renato Gaúcho, visto que o jovem jogador é o principal nome para substituir o uruguaio Arrascaeta. Tal atitude gerou um impasse com a entidade máxima do Futebol Brasileiro.

Outros clubes do Brasileirão, como Palmeiras e Corinthians, fizeram o mesmo em relação aos seus jogadores, respectivamente: Estêvão, Luis Guilherme e Vitor Reis (Palmeiras), Wesley e Breno Bidon (Corinthians). Com isso, a CBF acatou o pedido dos clubes e antecipou o fim do treinamento neste período de Data Fifa.

Além da dupla, o técnico Ramon Menezes também convocou uma trinca da base rubro-negra: o lateral direito Lucyan, de 17 anos, o zagueiro Iago, de 19 anos, e o atacante Wallace Yan, de 19 anos.

Desfalques

Tirando os convocados (Erick Pulgar, Varela, De La Cruz, Viña e Arrascaeta), o Flamengo tem o lateral esquerdo Ayrton Lucas voltando de lesão, por conta de uma lesão no músculo posterior da coxa esquerda, e o volante Alan com a mesma lesão, mas na coxa direita. No entanto, o lateral faz fisioterapia e vive a expectativa de retornar no jogo contra o Grêmio. Enquanto o volante continua em processo final de recuperação na academia, sem trabalhos com bola.

Abel admitiu que o gol sofrido no início deixou os jogadores nervosos e pediu ‘pés no chão’ com os jogadores formados nas categorias de base do Verdão.

– Sofremos o gol no início e ficamos nervosos. Queríamos ter a bola na frente sem construir com critério, e disse para eles no intervalo que era necessário ter mais a bola, construir de forma apoiada. Fico feliz porque os jogadores estiveram bem, os meninos estão felizes e precisam manter os pés no chão. A linha entre o elogio e a crítica é muito tênue – disse Abel.

Com a vitória sobre o Liverpool-URU, o Palmeiras ampliou a invencibilidade no Alllianz Parque para 17 jogos. O meia Gerson foi relacionado para a partida e pode voltar aos gramados após dois meses. No dia 1º de março, o mesmo passou por um procedimento de pieloplastia para correção de uma estenose congênita do ureter. A previsão era para que o atleta voltasse entre o final de abril e início de maio, porém o meia voltou muito antes do esperado e impressionou muito a comissão técnica.

O atacante Carlinhos, recém-contratado do Nova Iguaçu, também vai estar à disposição do Tite e pode ser uma boa alternativa no segundo tempo contra o Atlético-GO.

Konstas dazzled the cricket world on Boxing Day last year against India on Test debut with a flamboyant and audacious 60 off 65 balls. Critics said he would not be able to play that way on a regular basis and succeed.Runs have since proven elusive and Konstas did not pass 25 in his next nine Test innings.  He is competing with a plethora of candidates to partner Usman Khawaja for the opening Ashes Test in Perth but has no regrets about his approach on debut against Jasprit Bumrah and company.”I wouldn’t change it,” Konstas told AAP. “I don’t have any regrets in my life to be honest. I thought that was the right method at the time and it paid off. I don’t get too fixated about what others say. Whatever I feel is right I totally commit to.”My method is someone who is an aggressive batsman that likes to take on the game, while understanding the game situation when I do play well. It is about trying to score runs and win games.”The more experiences I have in different conditions the more I will adapt. I have to find my method and what works best in each situation.”What also works best for Konstas is not having social media. He went from a relative unknown to a global attraction overnight with 281,000 followers on Instagram. Watching the ball and not his phone screen is now the focus.”I never had social media until I was 18. I had it for a year and now I have taken a break from it to be more present and try and get back in the Ashes squad,” Konstas said. “It is just about focusing on myself and trying to give it a good crack.”Everyone uses social media differently but I feel now is the right time to get off it. I don’t read my comments on Instagram. I don’t care what other people say to be honest but everyone has their opinion.”Konstas heads to India with confidence and valuable lessons already under his belt.”I’ve had a few experiences in the subcontinent,” Konstas said prior to taking centre stage at Tuesday’s ASICS kit launch at the SCG. “I was lucky enough to be in the MRF Academy last year and to tour Sri Lanka as well with the Aussie boys. Hopefully I can score plenty of runs and adapt to those conditions.”It is about trying to be in the present moment with any game I play whether it be my club team, NSW or Australia A ahead of the Ashes.”I got so much out of my first time in the Caribbean and facing a quality fast attack. The wickets were tough to bat on.For me it was about trying to find methods for scoring runs in those conditions and understanding the bounce is variable and trying to find another method, if I do go again.”

Leicestershire and Derbyshire shared a dramatic tie after a see-saw battle at Grace Road – although the result did neither side any favours as they tried to keep alive their chances of qualifying for the knock-out phase of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.Rishi Patel and Lewis Hill shared a 166-run second-wicket partnership as the Foxes posted 312 for 5 from their 50 overs, bolstered by valuable contributions from Peter Handscomb (35 off 23) and Ben Cox (35 not out off 22) as the last 10 overs added 90 to their total.Alex Green, the Foxes’ 18-year-old fast-bowling prospect, had another memorable day, taking his third five-wicket haul of the competition, but it was not enough to see his side home. Haydon damaged his right hand attempting the catch and, though he completed the over, was off the field for the remainder of the innings.For the next couple of hours, Patel and Hill dominated. Hill completed a brisk half-century in 52 balls, timing his shots beautifully in gathering seven boundaries. A dab to third man from Patel took their stand into three figures in 18 overs. Patel, left out of the last two matches, completed his 50 off 79.Hill looked nailed on for his first List A century in four years when a lovely cut off Ben Aitchison took him into the 90s.
