Tottenham fans react to Rose developments

According to Sky Sports News, Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose will not be heading on loan to Schalke 04 despite various reports linking the Englishman with a move.

Rose did not leave Tottenham ahead of the closing of the English transfer window, but he can still join a foreign club before the end of the month.

Schalke are believed to have turned down the chance to sign the left-back as they are not interested in a loan deal, and cannot afford to sign him on a permanent transfer.

Rose, who has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, is very much behind Ben Davies when it comes to the left-back spot at Tottenham, and he will surely need to move on this month if he wants regular league football.

Tottenham fans have been reacting to the latest developments surrounding the defender’s signature, and some believe that Rose – on £65,000 a week – should now be given a chance to reignite his career at the capital club.

Revealed: Chelsea fans want Barkley dropped to make way for Kovacic

Ross Barkley has been one of the more surprising success stories of Maurizio Sarri’s first summer at Chelsea, pushing himself from the fringes of the first team squad to the make the starting XI for the Community Shield clash and the first Premier League game of the season – a 3-0 win over Huddersfield.

The England international impressed on both occasions but through no real fault of his own, his place in Sarri’s starting XI is now under threat following the loan arrival of Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid.

The 46-cap Croatian international has only officially been at Stamford Bridge for just over a week following his involvement in the World Cup final, but it seems inevitable he’ll join N’Golo Kante and Jorginho in Chelsea’s midfield sooner rather than later.

Accordingly, we asked Chelsea fans earlier this week whether Saturday’s Premier League clash with Arsenal should be when Kovacic is brought into the team, or whether Barkley deserves another start following his run of decent form.

And our poll has revealed that the majority of Blues supporters who took part would give Kovacic the nod to start against the Gunners, with 71% voting in his favour.

Are there any other changes you’d make to Sarri’s starting XI this weekend? Let us know by commenting below…

Pep Guardiola’s faith in his style may well have derived from Marcelo Bielsa

The Championship has welcomed an intriguing character this season with the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United – a man whom is widely acknowledged to have influenced arguably the most meticulous tactician in world football, namely Manchester City’ Pep Guardiola.

Bielsa’s influence does not start and end with Guardiola whom has described Bielsa as his “football father”, as the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Diego Simeone and Jorge Sampaoli have all cited the Argentine as a major influence on their respective styles.

With prestigious managers across the globe citing Bielsa as an influence, it’s no surprise that the Leeds supporters were excited to welcome him to the club in the summer, and so far their pre-season excitement has been justified by some outstanding performances from the Whites.

Short clips of expansive, free-flowing, possession-based and brave football have done the rounds on social media and forced plenty of football supporters to take note of a growing revolution in Yorkshire.

10 points from 4 fixtures have put Leeds top of the pile ahead of their trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich City on Saturday afternoon, and ahead of the clash Bielsa made an interesting comment during his pre-match press-conference.

In relation to the philosophy which he has brought to the club, Bielsa admitted “the idea to have alternative plans which is considered a virtue, I don’t really share this point of view.”

Essentially Bielsa has declared that he has the utmost faith in his preferred style and he doesn’t deem it necessary to have a plan b option in case the primary strategy fails to deliver positive results.

And Bielsa’s admission perhaps hints at where Guardiola established his own attitude, as he has demonstrated throughout his career so far that he trusts in his philosophy regardless of the situation he finds himself in.

Perhaps the most quintessential example of when the Man City boss has showcased this was during his time at Barcelona.

With the Catalan giants on the brink of a Champions League semi-final exit at Stamford Bridge, Guardiola’s side continued to relentlessly pass the ball around the Chelsea defenders, seeking an opportunity to score a decisive away goal for more than 80 minutes after Michael Essien had put the Blues 1-0 up.

Barcelona struggled to find any clear cut opportunities but yet the philosophy remained the same, even after they went down to 10 men in the 66th minute.

But Guardiola’s faith paid dividends in the 93rd minute as Iniesta picked out the top corner with a technically brilliant strike from the edge of the area, sparking wild celebrations from the players, the fans, Guardiola and the rest of his backroom staff on the touchline.

A moment of genius was needed to clinch the result, but the goal arrived as a consequence of tired Chelsea legs who had been chasing the ball all evening long, and they paid the ultimate price for affording Iniesta too much space to pick his spot in the dying moments of the game.

Although Leeds have not experienced a moment of that magnitude just yet, it’s likely that a similar scenario could emerge this season which, although is frustrating for supporters, is born out of a genuine belief in the formula.

Guardiola has certainly taken plenty of inspiration from Bielsa during his managerial career so far, and his latest admission in the media certainly suggests that his commitment to one strategy and one strategy only derives from the Argentine manager.

Leeds fans hail Pontus Jansson on social media

Leeds United reportedly turned down a bid in the region of £10m from Russian side Krasnodar for centre-back Pontus Jansson last week.

Jansson had his problems at Leeds last season, with the 27-year-old’s commitment to the cause called into question on a number of occasions.

He signed a new long-term contract at Elland Road in August, however, and is working his way back to full sharpness after missing pre-season due to the 2018 World Cup.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”285457″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Theatre Of Screams & The Serb As Good As Salah”]

There is no question that Jansson is a fine centre-back when all is well, and he took the chance to hail the Leeds fans during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, which is always a smart move.

Leeds have a massive game against Middlesbrough in the Championship on Friday night, and Jansson is sure to be in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting XI for the top-of-the-table clash.

Leeds fans have been offering their views on Jansson in response to his quotes ahead of the Boro match, and a selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Forest fans on Twitter fume after the club fail to sign a new striker

Nottingham Forest fans on Twitter were disappointed that that the club failed to sign a new striker on the loan deadline day after letting Greek striker Apostolos Vellios leave on a temporary deal to Belgian side Waasland-Beveren.

Manager Aitor Karanka had already allowed youngster Ben Brereton to join Blackburn in a deal that could be worth up to £7m after an initial loan period, according to the BBC.

Forest were extremely busy in the summer window, making an incredible 14 new signings and breaking their transfer record with the £13.2m capture of attacking midfielder Joao Carvalho from Benfica.

However, the Nottingham Post had reported earlier in the week that the club were keen to sign another striker following England U19 international Brereton’s move away from the City Ground, but none had materialised as the deadline passed.

Forest fans on Twitter were not happy with Karanka and the Reds seem to now be left with just Lewis Grabban, who is currently injured, and Daryl Murphy as recognised strikers. Check out the pick of the tweets below.

Pochettino’s hardest task against European elite

According to Spanish website Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham and Barcelona had bids for Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong rejected.

While Tottenham didn’t lose out to Barcelona, it is an indication of who they are now competing with when it comes to signing new players.

The Lilywhites sought, and are seeking, to improve their squad in order to challenge for a Premier League title, and get to the deeper stages of the Champions League. However, in order to do so, they need to compete with Europe’s big guns, and may not have the resources to do so.

As seen with Arsenal over the past decade, a new stadium is a massive financial burden on a football club, and can limit their options when it comes to new signings. Tottenham will not be able to offer clubs the enormous sums that other European giants can, meaning they are stuck in a difficult position. On the one hand, they need to reinforce their squad, on the other hand, they need players of a quality that will genuinely improve their squad, and that will cost money.

Ajax, in the past, has been a great resource for Tottenham to turn to in order to make signings. The likes of Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Dávinson Sánchez were all bought from the Dutch kingpins, however, it appears that de Jong was a step too far from them this time. The 21-year-old midfielder obviously had too big a price tag above his head, and Tottenham could not meet it.

So it appears that manager Mauricio Pochettino has a very unenviable task on his hands when it comes to signing new players. The more he has improved the side, means the higher quality players they need to sign, which often means the more money that they have to spend, which is proving difficult.

Tottenham fans react to Balague’s Pochettino claim

[ad_pod ]

According to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino rejected the chance to become Real Madrid boss during the summer.

Zinedine Zidane left the Bernabeu at the end of last season having delivered a third straight Champions League title.

Julen Lopetegui – in charge of Spain at the time – was announced as Zidane’s replacement on the eve of the 2018 World Cup, but according to Balague, Pochettino was first choice.

The 46-year-old has been in charge of Tottenham since 2014, and it would be fair to say that the Argentine has done a fine job at the helm, despite failing to secure a trophy.

Pochettino’s managerial career started at Espanyol in 2009, and it is understood that Real Madrid and indeed Barcelona are admirers of the Spurs boss.

Manchester United have also previously been credited with an interest in the former central defender, but Tottenham have managed to keep him thus far.

5P0RTZ.com’s Big Match Predictor: Everton vs West Ham

West Ham will look to break their four match winless streak in the Premier League this Sunday when they go to Goodison Park to face Everton. Everton have played 3 games to a draw thus far while also ending up down a man in half of their matches.

After a dismal start to life under Manuel Pellegrini, West Ham will need to dramatically improve on their form to take points off Everton away from home.

Everton have scored at least twice in three of their four matches so far this season and even without, Richarlison they should have little problems against this West Ham defence.

5P0RTZ is the new revolutionary gaming experience, where YOU can win loads of money after answering a few simple questions. All you have to do is play!

Question 1 – What will the result be?

Based on current form, Everton should secure all three points on Sunday, but they have been poor at protecting a lead. Regardless, because they are facing a team as weak in front of goal as West Ham, this shouldn’t be a problem.

Question 2 – How many goals will be scored in the game?

Neither side has kept a clean sheet this season so goals could be plentiful in this game. Even with Richarlison absent, Everton should have enough strength up front to put a couple past West Ham andm with Everton’s proclivity to conceding goals with a lead, excpect West Ham to pull one or two back.

Question 3 – Pick a player to score anytime

With Richarlison missing due to his red-card ban, Theo Walcott should see more of the ball on Sunday and is good value at “x3” to score during the match. There are rumours he may miss out through injury but, with Everton’s side so depleted with injury, there’s a chance he’ll be risked anyway.

Question 4 – How many corners will be taken?

Both Everton and West Ham have played games with below the average amount of corners taken so far, with respective averages of 7.75 and 9.00. This trend will most likely continue with lacklustre attacking play resulting in few corners from both sides.

Question  5 – Which one of these events will happen during the match?

This question offers you more freedom but the best value could be “either team to come from behind to win” which is “x4”. Everton’s inability to hold a lead could culminate in this outcome, or West Ham’s inability to score enough goals to put a side away.

Question 6 – Pick a player to get carded at any time

With Everton expected to have most of the ball, it seems likely that a player in West Ham’s central midfield will be booked at some point during the match. Jack Wilshere seems as likely as any of those type of players.

Question 7 – In which minute will the first goal be scored?

Their last couple games have indicated both teams need a little bit of time to settle into the game due to their lack of explosive attacking talent. Anything after the 25th minute seems most likely.

Sunderland fans react as Maja stars again

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Sunderland fans have been giving their verdict on Saturday’s big win, and they’re running out of good things to say about Josh Maja.

When Joel Asoro left this summer, some Sunderland fans were furious that such a talented and direct young player was being allowed to leave the club.

They certainly aren’t missing him now though, as the Black Cats have unearthed an even better youngster with Maja.

The 19 year-old has gone from strength to strength under Jack Ross, and grabbed his sixth and seventh goals of the season in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Rochdale.

The Black Cats went ahead shortly before the break when Maja headed home from Chris Maguire’s cross, and the youngster finished his second with great aplomb after a Lynden Gooch penalty had doubled the lead.

Sunderland had a rude awakening when Burton Albion handed them their first loss of the season last weekend, but Maja’s most recent finishing master class has got fans in high spirits again.

Karanka faces brilliant dilemma with Nottingham Forest this weekend

According to The Nottingham Post, Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka faces a selection issue this weekend.

The Reds head to Blackburn tomorrow, hoping to continue their good run of form, where they are unbeaten in their last four. However, after an impressive League Cup victory over Stoke in the week, the Spanish manager is divided as to whether he sticks or twists with his squad.

Karanka named a strong squad for the midlands battle in the week, although there were certainly players that are not regarded as regulars. The problem is whether the Spaniard wants to stick with a winning formula, or introduce changes to keep his team fresh. There will be one definite change, after Diogo Gonçalves received a red card midweek.

The beauty of this decision for Karanka is that he has such a big squad, he can make changes without disrupting the standard of him team. Strength in depth not only keeps a team fresh throughout a long season- particularly when competing in the the League Cup as well-, but allows continuity between changes. The Reds signed 17 players over the summer, and now have the second largest squad in the league, behind Sheffield Wednesday, meaning they have an abundance of options to chose from.

The Reds sit in ninth in the Championship, and a win tomorrow could see them fire into the top six, and potentially into fourth place with results going their way. In this vein of form, there is no reason why fans of Forest shouldn’t expect another win.
