West Ham Hold Summer Interest In England International

West Ham United hold an "interest" in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, who the Red Devils consider "on the market", per transfers expert Fabrizio Romano.

Is Harry Maguire joining West Ham United?

Despite not making a single signing so far this summer, it has been a hectic start to the transfer window in east London, primarily due to the protracted transfer saga surrounding their talismanic captain Declan Rice.

A deal to sell the England international to Arsenal was finally reached earlier this month for a record fee of £105m, which should allow the Hammers to attack the market however they like.

declan-rice-west-ham

The leading names linked to the side thus far have been, rather unsurprisingly, midfielders, with the likes of Fulham's Joao Palhinha or Southampton's James Ward-Prowse constantly being touted for a move to East London.

Well, a new name has recently been linked with the club, England international and United defender Maguire.

The 30-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford after being stripped of the captaincy earlier this week, and according to Sky Sports, the Hammers are interested in either a loan or permanent transfer this summer.

However, the Sheffield-born titan would rather stay in Manchester and fight for his place, but with the club's stance very clear and interest growing from the Irons and other parties, a move looks increasingly likely, per transfers expert Fabrizio Romano.

He explained the situation on his YouTube channel, saying:

"Manchester United consider Harry Maguire available on the market, but it's also true that Harry Maguire wants to fight for his place at Man United and to try to find a way to be part of this squad, so Harry Maguire will do his best for Man United. But at the same time, he knows very well that he is considered available on the market by Manchester United.

"It is true there is a interest from West Ham. It's true that there are also other clubs keen on Harry Maguire."

Man United's Harry Maguire

Would Harry Maguire be a good signing for West Ham United?

It might not be a transfer that excites West Ham fans as much as another player, perhaps, but even with Maguire's struggles at Old Trafford, there is undeniably a player in there, one that originally cost the Red Devils £80m when he was playing out of his skin for Leicester City.

The first thing to look at are his underlying numbers, as outside of the narrative that he is a finished player, the numbers show that he could still be of service to a Premier League team looking to establish themselves in the top half of the table.

According to FBref, who compare players in a similar position across Europe's top five leagues, Maguire sits in the top 11% for blocks, the top 12% for aerial duals won, the top 13% for touches in the opposition's penalty area, the top 17% for attempted passes, the top 19% for progressive carries, and the top 26% for progressive passes received, all per 90.

He has also been able to maintain his position in the England side over the last few years despite his reduced playing time, and despite calls for him to be dropped, he has yet to let the national side down at a tournament.

According to WhoScored, the 6 foot 4 "colossus", as described by England teammate Jordan Henderson, achieved a seriously impressive rating of 7.35 across his five games at last year's World Cup.

Whilst his time at Old Trafford has been nothing short of a disaster for the former Foxes' star, he has more than enough quality to help David Moyes propel the Hammers up into the top half of the Premier League next season.

We showed a lot of guts – Roston Chase

West Indies allrounder Roston Chase called his fighting century on the final day of the series against Pakistan the “toughest” of his career, after he ran out of partners with only one more over to see out a draw in Roseau. He was left unbeaten on 101, his third Test century, when Yasir Shah bowled Shannon Gabriel with the last ball of the penultimate over of the Test.”I wouldn’t say it’s up there with the other two but a century is a century,” Chase said after the match. “We ended up losing the match but this one was the hardest for me. The others were more fluent and the conditions were a lot easier but this one was really tough for me. The pitch was a slower one, you couldn’t play a lot of shots, the outfield was very slow and the bowlers really put the ball in good areas. This one was the toughest out of my few so far.”I thought it was a fighting effort. It’s sad to see that it didn’t mean much in the end because we lost the match but I thought the guys showed a lot of guts and effort not only today but in the whole match. [We] even put ourselves in the chance of, maybe not winning but, at least drawing the series.”Chase recalled how Yasir had dismissed him in three out of six innings in the UAE last year, when and he had averaged 22.50 in the three Tests. In this series, Chase was out to Yasir twice in six innings but the batsman said he had found a way to counter the legspinner.”I didn’t really do that well in Dubai, so after that series I came home and worked on some of the things that I thought brought my shortfall in Dubai,” Chase said. “Especially Yasir Shah got the better of me a lot and this was mainly because he was tying me down and then I was just falling to a bad shot because of the pressure.”When I went back home, something I really tried to work on was my sweep shot because that would put him off a little and change up the field and give me a little bit more scoring options. I thought that really was the key, seeing that he was there all series, so once I got through him it was a little easier for me to play the other bowlers.”Chase’s hundred was not chanceless though. He was dropped twice by the debutant Hasan Ali, and then Mohammad Abbas had him caught in the slips on 92 but replays showed the bowler had overstepped. He was cheered on by the crowd in Roseau.”It’s always good to hear people calling your name,” Chase said. “So many guys are asking me if I’m actually from Dominica. I was always a big fan of the drums, so I love the drums and I love the Dominican fans.”With 403 runs in six innings, Chase finished the series on top of the run-scorers’ list, averaging 100.75 with two centuries and two half-centuries. No other batsman made more than 300.”Even though I’m always a confident guy, it does [add] a lot to see that I average a 100 in the series against a quality attack,” he said. “I’m not going to let it get to my head and I’m going to go back home and the next Test series is England, so hopefully I should be there. I’ll go and look at some footage of the English guys and see what weaknesses they have, what I’ll be looking to exploit and see if that can work. Work hard on those weaknesses so that I can put up some good performances in that series as well.”

Chelsea Keen On New £70m-Rated Midfielder Alongside Caicedo

Chelsea could have their sights set on a huge swoop to sign Marco Verratti from PSG, according to reliable journalist Kaveh Solhekol, via The Chelsea Chronicle.

What is the latest Chelsea transfer news?

The Blues suffered a torrid Premier League campaign in 2022/23, disposing of Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter before slumping down the division and out of the top ten entirely. Any hopes of European football, even the Europa Conference League, were dashed as the side struggled to pick up wins. It means that this summer will require an overhaul and the club have already got to work in sorting out transfer business to get them back on track.

One of the biggest transfer sagas for Chelsea this summer involves Moises Caicedo. With the English side keen on signing the midfielder, it seems as though this is one deal that will continue to drag on for weeks. The most recent update has seen the club launch an official bid to try and bring in the Ecuador star, but current club Brighton snubbed that approach – believed to be worth £70m – and it is now back to the drawing board for the Blues.

They have also been linked with a swoop for wonderkid Matheus Franca, who is currently playing for Flamengo in Brazil. He is seen as a real talent and would cost Chelsea £21m if they did wish to bring him to Stamford Bridge. The club's owner Todd Boehly appears to be prepared to stump up that amount to land the versatile attacker though, so a deal could potentially happen.

Are Chelsea signing Marco Verratti?

Now, according to reliable journalist Kaveh Solhekol, via The Chelsea Chronicle, there is yet another name on their transfer wishlist. It comes in the form of PSG's Marco Verratti, with the reporter stating that the midfielder could be available on a deal from the Ligue 1 side this summer.

It seems the French outfit may be prepared to sell him on if they can land a fee of around £70m for his services and Chelsea have been listed as one of the clubs considering a move for the Italian. No official bid has yet been tabled for the player though and they will also face competition for his signature from Liverpool.

Solhekol said: "PSG’s official position is that the player is not for sale, but I think, reading between the lines, they would listen to offers for him, offers that match their valuation. I think their valuation is about £70m. We have also been told that two Premier League clubs are interested in signing him. The names we were told were Liverpool and Chelsea."

The midfielder is a huge name who has long stood out with his quality on the big stage, with the Italian playing on both the World and European stages with PSG. It's led to him becoming one of the most notable players in his position and that remains the same even this season. Football journalist Josh Bunting stated that Verratti is "magnificent" in terms of his vision, most notably during a game for his country back in March.

It shows that, even though the international star is now 30-years-old, he is still playing at the highest level. If Chelsea want to improve their midfield then, the Ligue 1 based man might be a really good signing for the club.

Man United Could Swap Martial Plus Cash To Sign 30-Goal Striker

Manchester United have not given up on signing Harry Kane this summer it seems, with Football Transfers reporting that a fresh player plus cash bid could be lined up for the striker.

How many career goals does Harry Kane have?

There's no doubting that the Tottenham man is currently one of the most prolific forwards in the game, with the 29-year-old hitting one of his career best totals for goals in the Premier League last season. In 38 outings for his side in the top flight, he produced 30 goals and three assists – leading to a rate of 0.87 goal contributions per 90 on average.

It means that the Spurs attacker now has a total of 227 career league goals in just 373 games, with the majorityof those coming in the top flight. With the player still to enter his thirties too, it looks like he will continue to hit the back of the net for a good few years yet.

In fact, his league total of goals in the 2022/23 season actually saw him sit second in both the division's goal ranking and the Big Five European Leagues goal rankings too – only Erling Haaland had more for either category. Kane beat out the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Victor Osimhen and Robert Lewandowski – which shows he is clearly still one of the best in his position in world football.

Are Man United signing Harry Kane?

It's no surprise then to hear that Man United remain eager to try and add him to their squad this summer. The Red Devils had been linked with a transfer for the star for most of the window, only for it to seem like a potential deal might be dead in the water.

Now, according to a report from Football Transfers, in what is a big twist from the interest in making Rasmus Hojlund their marquee number nine, the Premier League side also want to try and sort out an agreement for Kane this summer – and could use a player at their disposal to try and tempt Tottenham into doing business.

That's because Spurs are believed to be keen on snapping up Anthony Martial themselves – and now United can use that to their advantage. With United chiefs still holding out hope of a potential deal for Kane despite interest from Bayern Munich, they could be prepared to offer both the Frenchman and a fee for Kane in order to convince their rivals into allowing the England international to move to Old Trafford.

It also appears as though Kane himself wouldn't mind a move to the Red Devils – so that will be a welcome boost in their continued pursuit of the forward this summer.

It would certainly help solve their attacking issues if they did sign him. His goalscoring exploits have led to him being recognised as one of the best in the game right now. Even Pep Guardiola, Man City's treble-winning manager, has been quick to highlight how good Kane is in attack. The Catalan called the forward "exceptional" and had even bigger praise for the Spurs man, adding that he is "one of the best strikers" he has ever watched.

If Man United did manage to finally bring him to the club then, it would be a blow to their rivals but would also make the Red Devils a real force to be reckoned with next season.

Northants battle back after McKerr's maiden five

Conor McKerr picked up a maiden five-wicket haul in just his second first-class match but his Derbyshire side ended the first day only even against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road

He was taken to hospital and is being kept overnight at Kettering General.Sanderson struck with the first ball of the Derbyshire reply, trapping makeshift opening Jeevan Mendis lbw. His second spell produced an edge from Gary Wilson that was taken at the second attempt by stand-in wicketkeeper Ben Duckett, and one that came back in to fix Daryn Smit lbw for 4, continuing the South African’s poor form.In between there were poor strokes from Billy Godleman driving loosely and presenting an edge to Alex Wakely at second slip off Rory Kleinvelt, and Shiv Thakor, who made a quick 45 including seven boundaries before flashing outside his off stump and getting a thin edge to Duckett.Thakor’s wicket was the first of the game for Buck, who followed up by winning an lbw verdict against Wayne Madsen, another South African out of touch. But a stand of 43 between Alex Hughes – who went past fifty in 83 balls with five fours – and Tom Taylor, who ate up 48 balls for his 7 not out, battled Derbyshire back into the game.Northants had got themselves back on top, despite having little to play with after a batting effort lacking in discipline to occupy the crease on a green-tinged wicket but not one offering excessive seam movement.Derbyshire arrived buoyed by a near-miss at Trent Bridge last week and, with McKerr to add an edge to their attack, hurried Northants away from 134 for 3 when Rob Newton and Duckett were going very well in a stand of 78 for the fourth wicket.Newton played with fluency, driving confidently and pulling Hughes to the midwicket boundary. A well-timed off-side push brought him a fourth Championship fifty of the summer in 83 balls with seven fours. Only later in the day did his 67 realise its true value.Duckett, returning from England Lions duty, also looked full of confidence and struck two perfect straight drives, then took further boundaries with flourishing strokes through extra-cover off Tony Palladino to reach 36.But it was Palladino who found the breakthrough to begin the collapse. Duckett dragged a cover drive into his stumps and Newton followed three overs later to the same bowler, trying to punch off the back foot and edging to wicketkeeper Smit. Palladino also removed Buck who dabbed at a ball just outside off and got an edge into his stumps. Before Buck’s wicket, McKerr – who removed Wakely and Rob Keogh before lunch – returned to have Josh Cobb splendidly held in the gully by Alex Hughes for a six-ball duck, driving far too loosely outside his off stump, and picked up a fourth wicket with Sanderson held in the gully. The most galling dismissal of the innings was that of Chesney Hughes, playing against his former county. Trying to pull a long hop from part-time offspinner Madsen, he got a miserable top-edge to extra-cover.Kleinveldt lifted two sixes over point and a third over midwicket – all to the short boundary – as Northants limped to a first batting point. Kleinveldt was last man out miscuing a pull that was taken by Smit to hand McKerr a first five-wicket haul.

Liverpool Could Sign Fabinho Replacement In £38m Monster

Liverpool have had to reassess their transfer strategy due to the imminent departures of both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho this summer, and now a new update has emerged on a potential target, Boubacar Kamara.

How much will Boubacar Kamara cost?

According to The Athletic journalist Andy Jones, Liverpool are interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

As per a report written for the publication, Liverpool are now looking short of experience and depth in their deep-lying roles in midfield, which has led to Jurgen Klopp having to quickly identify potential options to replace both Henderson and Fabinho ahead of next season.

It is claimed that Kamara is one of the players on the Merseyside club's radar, despite Liverpool being linked with his teammate Douglas Luiz previously.

No fee is mooted, although Football Transfers value him at £38m.

How good is Boubacar Kamara?

Whilst Dominik Szoboszlai is the exception, it is clear that Klopp is keen to rebuild his midfield with Premier League-proven players who possess the experience needed to improve performances in the top flight next season.

After signing Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion, the Reds have been strongly linked with his teammate Moises Caicedo, Crystal Palace star Cheick Doucoure and Southampton youngster Romeo Lavia, all players who have been stand-out performers for their clubs in English football.

As a result, the interest in Kamara makes perfect sense and if Liverpool can seal a good deal to sign the talented midfielder, it would be a great way to bolster the deeper roles in the centre of the pitch and acquire the services of a worthy Fabinho successor.

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho.

The 23-year-old Frenchman – hailed a "jewel" by football talent scout Jacek Kulig – has been a huge presence at Villa Park since joining on a free transfer from Marseille last summer.

Over 24 Premier League appearances, the Villa ace tallied up an 85% pass completion rate, registered one assist, successfully completed 57% of his dribbles and won the majority of his aerial and ground duels combined (55%), proving that he is a solid and reliable defensive presence in the centre of the pitch.

The Villa midfield shield has recieved high praise during his short time in the top flight so far, with Claret and Blue podcaster Dan Rolinson claiming that Kamara is the club's best midfielder last season:

“I think Kamara is our best midfielder currently at the club by a mile, I think. I don’t think there’s anyone close to him in the midfield that’s as good as him."

When comparing Kamara's output with Fabinho's last season, the Villa midfielder displayed a lot of similarities to his Brazilian positional peer coming close in a number of key attributes including pass completion rate (84.8% v 88.3%), percentage of dribblers tackled (48.2% v 38.7%), successful take-ons (45.7% v 46.7%) and aerial duels won (56.4% v 58.8%), as per FBref.

With that being said, Kamara could be a really exciting prospect for Liverpool upon the exit of Fabinho if Villa are willing to part ways with their asset this summer and would provide the team with a like-for-like replacement who has the experience needed to make an instant impact at Anfield.

Rangers: Beale Can Brutally Replace Barisic With £2.5m Signing At Ibrox

An update has emerged on Michael Beale's plans to reshape his Glasgow Rangers playing squad during the summer transfer window…

What's the latest Rangers transfer news?

According to journalist David McCarthy in the Daily Record [10/07/2023 – Page 45], Borna Barisic is one of four players on the chopping block ahead of the 2023/24 campaign (as relayed by Ibrox News).

The reporter has claimed that Ianis Hagi, Glen Kamara, and Ben Davies – who only joined the club from Liverpool last year – are also on the market, as the Light Blues are prepared to sell them all for the right price.

This comes after The Scottish Sun reported that Beale will need to sell at least three members of his first team before being able to splash out more cash on fresh arrivals before the deadline, with Croatian international Antonio Colak added to the list of possible departures as Werder Bremen eye his signature.

Football Scotland recently reported that Rangers remain interested in signing left-sided defender Jonathan Panzo, who is valued at £2.5m, from Nottingham Forest, although a deal is not advanced at this point in time.

How good is Jonathan Panzo?

The 22-year-old titan, who is capable of being deployed as a centre-back or left-back, enjoyed a strong season on loan with Coventry City in the English Championship last term and his performances suggest that he could be a good addition to Beale's squad.

Panzo could come in as Barisic's replacement due to his ability to play on the left, although the manager would seemingly need to wait until the sales are completed before officially securing the English tank's services.

Coventry loanee Jonathan Panzo.

The Forest prospect could provide an upgrade on the defensive side of the game.

He made 3.3 tackles and interceptions along with 2.9 clearances per game across 29 league starts last season, which is more than any Rangers full-back managed throughout the Scottish Premiership campaign.

Barisic made 2.8 tackles and interceptions alongside 1.1 clearances per outing for the Light Blues, whilst he also only won 0.9 aerial battles per clash – 1.1 fewer than Panzo.

These statistics suggest that the former Monaco titan, who was once lauded as being "outstanding" by his former Sky Blues boss Mark Robins, has the defensive skill set to outperform the Croatia international, by winning possession back for his side with a greater frequency and being more dominant in the air.

Barisic did, however, offer creativity from left-back as the 30-year-old dynamo assisted nine goals in 27 league starts for the Scottish giants.

Ridvan Yilmaz could fill some of that void, though, given the Turkey international assisted two goals in a run of five starts at the end of last season. That's after the young defender produced four assists in 23 league starts for Besiktas during the previous campaign.

The English boss would then have two different left-back options depending on what is needed in the next match.

Yilmaz would be the attacking, front-foot option, whilst Panzo could come in for difficult matches where his terrific defensive qualities will be required to keep the opposition out – such as in Europe.

Therefore, Beale must brutally ditch Barisic and sanction his exit in tandem with a swoop to sign the versatile Premier League defender before the deadline.

Fabrizio Romano: Man United to "push" for superstar signing

Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United will not pay over the odds for Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund as the Red Devils prepare their opening bid for the 20-year-old.

How much will Hojlund cost Man United?

Erik ten Hag has managed to secure two of the signings on his summer wishlist already with deals for Mason Mount and Andre Onana having been completed in recent weeks.

Now attention has turned to his hunt for a new number nine capable of firing Man United to glory next season, with Atalanta's Hojlund seemingly the Dutchman's top priority.

Other forwards had been considered, but 20-year-old Hojlund has seemingly impressed Ten Hag and a transfer looks to be edging closer as the Danish forward tries to secure a move to Old Trafford.

Hojlund has not hidden his admiration for United and his willingness to move to Manchester, but the issue that has prevented the deal from moving faster is La Dea's high valuation of their young attacker.

The Serie A side want £86m for Hojlund but United are unwilling to fork out that much on a fairly inexperienced forward. According to journalist Romano, the Red Devils will not be coerced into spending "crazy money" on the youngster.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he stated: "At the moment, Man United are working on Rasmus Hojlund deal. They have an agreement with Rasmus Hojlund in terms of personal terms and they will push also on the player side with an official bid to Atalanta.

"They will not pay crazy money. So, this has to be very clear. Man United want Hojlund but at the right conditions. So, the first bid is coming and let's see how the conversation will go."

Despite being eager to keep Hojlund in Italy, Atalanta will not force the player to stay and may be tempted to cash in on the forward while interest is so high. It is thought that a fee closer to £60m may actually be enough to secure the six-cap international's signature, a price more closely resembling a figure United would be willing to pay.

Having only made 32 appearances in a top-five European league, there will undoubtedly be question marks over Hojlund's ability to replicate his Atalanta form in the Premier League on a consistent basis.

The striker did manage nine goals and four assists in Serie A last season and has impressed with his pace, physicality and precision in front of goal.

Who else might Man United sign?

When United complete their search for a new number nine, attention will turn to reinforcing the midfield.

Fred is set to leave and Scott McTominay has been rumoured with an exit as well. Borussia Dortmund are about to sign Marcel Sabitzer meaning any chance of his loan turning into a permanent deal have vanished.

United will therefore be light in midfield and will need to dip into the transfer market to prepare for next season. The Red Devils will require even more squad depth next season due to their Champions League commitments meaning major additions are needed.

One player Ten Hag could turn to in the middle of the park is Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat who has been linked with Old Trafford throughout the summer. The Moroccan 26-year-old could be a great option to rotate with Casemiro and may be available for just £34m.

Another player being considered at Old Trafford is Bayern Munich's Leon Goretzka and Die Roten may also be willing to sell their star midfielder for £34m (via Metro).
