Liverpool Could Land Their Next Milner With £24m-rated Dynamo

Liverpool are eyeing a move for an unlikely new midfielder in Leicester City's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, with Jurgen Klopp still hoping for several acquisitions before the transfer window closes.

The Reds started the transfer window strong with the astute £35m purchase of Brighton & Hove Albion's Alexis Mac Allister, before following up with the exciting £60m move for Dominik Szobsozlai, but the movement has since stagnated, with Southampton's defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia, aged 19, yet to join following several failed bids.

The need for fresh faces is exacerbated by the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Arabian sides, and Klopp and co need to now move swiftly with the 2023/24 Premier League campaign less than a week away.

What's the latest on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Liverpool?

According to a report from Anfield Watch last week, Liverpool are 'looking at' making a move for Foxes ace Dewsbury-Hall, having been impressed by the 24-year-old's performances last season.

Read the latest Liverpool transfer news HERE…

The £24m-rated Englishman has been relegated with Leicester, but Liverpool have a tried and tested method of signing from clubs who have suffered the drop, and Klopp could now continue this trend and bolster his centre.

What type of player is Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall?

Despite plummeting into the second tier this year, the Reds' interest in Dewsbury-Hall is a testament to his industrious ability and energy levels from the centre of the pitch.

As per FBref, the 24-year-old ranks among the top 13% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for progressive carries, the top 10% for successful take-ons and the top 1% for blocks per 90, which highlights his aptitude as both a forward-surging force and a defensive unit to bolster the backline.

This didn't quite work to the desired effect with the Foxes last term, granted, but the £75k-per-week machine did record an average rating of 6.86 in the English top-flight – as per Sofascore – averaging 1.3 key passes and 1.7 tackles per game and succeeding with 61% of his attempted dribbles.

Given his energy and enthusiasm from the centre of the park, Dewsbury-Hall could be the perfect replacement for James Milner, who departed Anfield this summer upon the expiry of his contract.

kiernan-dewsbury-hall-transfer-news-opinion-premier-league

Dewsbury-Hall can play across the midfield and would be a valuable asset for Klopp's side as they look to bolster the ranks ahead of the new campaign, and while Milner is now 37 years old, his leadership and dynamism will be missed.

Former boss Brendan Rodgers was once left waxing lyrical over the Leicester man's skills, stating that he "typifies everything" that the club strived to do well, also calling him "wonderful".

Likewise, Milner was dubbed a "role model" who "sets the standards" by Klopp, and given that the one-time Manchester City dynamo ranks among the top 12% of midfielders for progressive passes, the top 22% for progressive carries, the top 26% for successful take-ons and the top 10% for tackles per 90, he still boasts the all-encompassing skills to bely his age.

While Dewsbury-Hall might not be the marquee name Liverpool fans covet, he could prove to be a worthwhile addition and, if the finances are right, Liverpool should make their move and enrich the ranks.

Sciver trumps prolific Bates as Vipers fall short

Reigning champions Southern Vipers lost their first game in this season’s Kia Women’s Super League despite another impressive innings by Suzie Bates

Reigning champions Southern Vipers lost their first game in this season’s Kia Women’s Super League despite another impressive innings by Suzie Bates.Bates has yet to be dismissed in the tournament after making an unbeaten 50 to add to earlier scores of 47 and 119.But Vipers’ pursuit of a target of 128 against Surrey Stars at the Ageas Bowl stalled when they lost four wickets for one run having reached 78 for 3 in the 13th over.Rain forced the players off after 16.2 overs with Vipers 100 for 7 as Stars won by four runs under Duckworth-Lewis to claim their third straight win and virtually seal their place in finals day at Hove on September 1.Bates and West Indies’ Hayley Matthews had launched the chase with a stand of 35 before Vipers lost three wickets in nine balls, two of them to England off-spinner Laura Marsh.Bates and Arran Brindle then put on 37 for the fourth wicket and looked to be steering the hosts to victory before the dramatic collapse.Brindle was leg before to Nat Sciver who then ran out Georgia Adams from midwicket in the next over. In her next over, Sciver bowled Vipers’ captain Charlotte Edwards round her legs and trapped Carla Rudd lbw two balls later.Vipers took 16 runs off the 16th over with Bates moving to her half-century with successive fours as they tried in vain to get ahead of Duckworth-Lewis before the rain got too heavy.Earlier, Stars were indebted to their two South Africans, Lizelle Lee and Marizanne Kapp, to get them to 127 for 8 after winning the toss with 56 runs coming in the Powerplay.Lee, making her first appearance in the competition, crashed 40 off 24 balls with eight fours as she dominated to the extent that no other batsman scored a run until the fifth over. She looked in prime form until mis-timing a drive to extra cover in the seventh over.Kapp held the rest of the innings together with 42 from 48 balls but some accurate bowling restricted Stars to 50 runs between the 6th and 16th overs, during which time they lost three wickets including Sciver, who was run out by Matthews’ direct hit from mid-off.

Everton Eyeing 23-Year-Old Attacker

Everton are believed to be interested in signing Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Tete in the summer transfer window, according to a new report.

Who is Everton target Tete?

The 23-year-old has been at his current club since 2019, having arrived from his homeland of Brazil, where he previously played for Gremio. Since coming in, he has scored 31 goals in 108 appearances for Shakhtar, also registering 15 assists, showing that he is both a goalscorer and a creative influence in attacking areas.

Back in January, Tete joined Leicester City on loan, hoping to aid their chances of survival in the Premier League, but he was ultimately to prevent them from heading down into the Championship. He only scored once in 13 league outings for the Foxes, not enjoying the success many would have hoped.

That's not to say that the Brazilian couldn't be an exciting target for someone in the current transfer window, however, which is where Everton come into play.

Could Everton sign Tete?

According to talkSPORT, the Blues are eyeing up a summer move for Tete, seeing him as a strong alternative to Leeds United youngster Wilfried Gnonto, should they fail to sign him:

"talkSPORT understands Gnonto, 19, and his advisers are not completely sold on the idea of a move to Goodison Park, and that the Italian could consider staying at Elland Road depending on what other offers he receives.

"While dialogue remains open, Everton have already started drawing up a list of potential alternatives to Italian international Gnonto. These are believed to include Shakhtar Donetsk star Tete, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester."

This could be an intriguing piece of business by Everton this summer, with Tete's goal-scoring record for Shakhtar showing what he is capable of, even if he struggled to make a big impact in a Leicester shirt.

Capable of shining in both a right-sided attacking role and as a centre forward, Tete, known as a "hurricane" by people in Brazil, could add end product and versatility to the Blues' squad, at a time when there is a dearth of it in the attacking third. While not specifically mentioning Everton as a club he would like to join, he has even spoken of his admiration for the Premier League in the past, saying:

"The Premier League is an extraordinary competition, the game is played at a great pace, there are lots of great managers and great clubs."

Tete is still a young player with plenty more improving to do as a player, so he could be viewed as an eye-catching long-term purchase, rather than a short-term quick fix, and is someone with the ability to light up Goodison Park, with Brendan Rodgers recently hailing the player's first touch.

"What a debut for him. It was really good. He knows football, he knows the type of game we were trying to play, his touch is immaculate. He has a good weight of pass but can run in behind. His finish was absolutely brilliant. He loves football off the pitch and he is super professional."

The fact that his current Shakhtar deal expires at the end of December later this year could also mean that his current club consider a bid for him, rather than losing him on a free transfer when his deal runs out. This would act as an added boost for Everton, who could even snap him up for a cut-price amount.

Tottenham: Spurs Eye "Official" Move For £50m Kane Heir

Tottenham Hotspur will make an "official approach" for Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson if Harry Kane is sold, according to reliable reports.

Is Harry Kane leaving Tottenham?

The 30-year-old is into his final 12 months as a Spurs player, and with no contract extension in sight, Lilywhites chairman Daniel Levy is set to make one of the biggest decisions of his tenure – whether to stick or twist with Kane.

Keeping the Tottenham talisman, without assurances that he'll sign a new deal, could mean he departs for free next summer – resulting in a huge, huge financial loss for the club.

However, selling Kane for a marquee this window would mean depriving Ange Postecoglou of an elite, world class striker. Bayern Munich are hot on the heels of Spurs' star man, with reports suggesting that they're set to make another offer and one which they believe could tempt Levy into selling.

Indeed, his future is very much hanging in the balance as we enter the final month of this summer transfer window, with Postecoglou admitting he is far relaxed about the Kane saga.

Read the latest Tottenham transfer news HERE…

“Fair to say I am not relaxed about it," said the Spurs head coach.

“It’s not something you go: ‘Ah, well, you know if it does or doesn’t happen!’ I mean it’s a very important part of this football club, not just the team, but the football club.

“So, you’ve got to deal with it, and I think, for everyone concerned, we don’t want to be doing it for too long. I don’t think that is good for anyone. I don’t think it is good for Harry, I don’t think it is good for the club, because as laser focused as we want to be, you end up sort of repeating yourself along the way."

The north Londoners have shortlisted possible targets for Kane in case he does leave, with Eintracht Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani and Gent striker Gift Orban coming as a few to have been linked.

Johnson, who starred for Forest last season, isn't an out-and-out striker of Kane's ilk but could be signed to bolster Postecoglou's attacking areas in the event of his departure.

Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson.

That's according to The Athletic, who say Spurs are "expected to make an official approach" for the 22-year-old in the event of a Kane exit

It's added that Forest value him at £50 million, mainly for his potential and blistering pace, with one "significant" lure for Spurs being Johnson's homegrown status.

How good is Brennan Johnson?

According to WhoScored, Johnson stood out as one of Forest's key attacking players over 2022/2023, ranking among their top two for shots at goal and key passes made per 90.

The Welshman, who bagged eight goals and three assists in the top flight last term, has also been called a "wonderful player" by Wales national team boss Robert Page.

“Brennan could potentially have had a move in January,” said Page in 2022.

“But he decided to stay because he’s at a club where he was going to play and enjoy his football.

“That speaks volumes about him. He didn’t go chasing the money. He’s almost the finished article now and Forest have got a wonderful player on their hands.

“I’ve been to watch him a few times and he’s playing with freedom. He’s really enjoying his football."

Man City Eye Move For £52m Mahrez Heir

Manchester City begin their bid for a fourth Premier League title in a row this evening when they visit Turf Moor to take on Burnley.

Pep Guardiola has strengthened his side by adding Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol during the summer transfer window, and it appears as though the Spaniard is looking to bolster his attacking options by making a move for Rennes winger Jeremy Doku.

Could Manchester City sign Jeremy Doku?

According to The Telegraph, Guardiola has identified Doku as a target and a move is being ‘strongly considered’ before the end of the transfer window in a few weeks.

The Ligue 1 side have valued the 21-year-old at between €50m-€60m (£43m-£52m) and this shouldn’t present any real problem for City as they look to fill the void left by Riyad Mahrez.

The Algerian winger departed the Etihad side following a hugely successful five-year stint in Manchester, winning four league titles along with the Champions League during that time.

Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli met their asking price of £30m and although this is an excellent piece of business considering he is 32 years old, Guardiola is now eyeing up a replacement.

How good is Jeremy Doku?

Mahrez did make 36 starts across all competitions last season, scoring 15 goals and grabbing 13 assists and these totals could be difficult to replace.

The left-footed winger primarily operated on the right wing, cutting inside on a regular basis and Doku also features on the right flank.

The Belgian starlet burst onto the scene with Anderlecht in his homeland before making the move to Rennes in 2020 and the youngster has already racked up an impressive 131 senior appearances, registering 35 goal contributions along the way.

Doku showed a growing maturity by ranking third across the whole squad last season with regard to overall Sofascore match rating (7.15/10) and for big chances created (six), while topping the pile for successful dribbles per game (3.3), showing that he can terrorise defenders with his dribbling ability while having the quality to set up chances for others.

In contrast, Mahrez succeeded with just 0.8 dribbles per game, while creating only three more big chances throughout the league season than Doku, and it’s evident that he could be an ideal long-term successor to the former Leicester City winger.

Jeremy Doku could be an option for Aston Villa.

Doku has certainly made a major impact in terms of his performances compared to positional peers over the previous 365 days. During this time, the 14-cap Belgian ranks in the top 1% across the top five European leagues over a wide range of attacking metrics, including progressive carries, progressive passes, touches in the attacking penalty area, shot-creating actions and non-penalty goals.

This clearly indicates that he is a player who is ready to make an impact in the City starting XI straight away, while he has the attributes to develop into a truly world-class player under the tutelage of Guardiola.

Hailed as a “menace” by U23 scout Antonio Mango earlier this year, Doku has emerged as one of the most highly rated attackers on the continent and judging by his recent statistics, he would fill in the void left by Mahrez with ease.

Iyer's 124-ball 138 lights up draw; Odisha avoid defeat

Tamil Nadu walked away with three points by virtue of having taken the first-innings lead, while Odisha’s lower order halted Madhya Pradesh’s push for victory

ESPNcricinfo staff27-Oct-2017For a little while, there was the promise of a thrilling finish between Mumbai and Tamil Nadu at the BKC, but it was duly extinguished once Shreyas Iyer’s (138 off 124 balls) pyrotechnics came to an end. Tamil Nadu walked away with three points by virtue of having taken the first-innings lead in the drawn encounter, after Mumbai declared on 371 for 5. Akhil Herwadkar (132) produced a polished effort to bring up his seventh first-class hundred, but it was of little more than academic significance. The only piece of meaningful action came in the morning when Iyer ripped the Tamil Nadu attack. His 11th first-class hundred, breathtaking and calculative in equal measure, took the game forward. With little assistance from the pitch, the bowlers, including R Ashwin, were taken down with ease by Iyer who added four sixes to his five from the third day. The Mumbai batsman brought up his run-a-ball hundred with a four and a six off consecutive deliveries from Yo Mahesh. Iyer then continued to tonk the ball around with slap-pulls and square cuts. However, an ill-advised second run in the 45th over resulted in his dismissal. K Vignesh fired in a strong throw from the deep and despite a dive, Iyer found himself short of the crease.Herwadkar said later that Mumbai didn’t look at declaration given that the pitch didn’t help the bowlers much. “There was hardly any turn,” he said. “We just wanted to bat out the day.” Tamil Nadu captain Abhinav Mukund could empathise with Mumbai’s decision given that it was only their second match of the season. “We were prepared for about 40 or 50 overs. I thought they would put us back,” he said. “But considering they had four more games this season, I think they didn’t want to take the risk.” Ashwin’s 26 overs in the second innings yielded no wickets and he went for over four runs an over, with Iyer and Herwadkar playing him with ease. Abhinav credited the batsmen, but was surprised that the pitch didn’t break up. “There wasn’t as much assistance as I thought there would be on the fourth day,” he said. “It was quite unlike BKC because I thought end third day or the fourth day there will be balls turning. But there was hardly any turn even on the fourth day.” With seven points from three games, Tamil Nadu are now third on the standings, while Mumbai, having played one fewer game, are fourth with four points.Odisha’s lower order clung on to avoid outright defeat, finishing on 152 for 7 in their second innings after Andhra had enforced the follow-on in Vizianagaram.Resuming their first innings on 294 for 6, Odisha lost Subham Nayak in the first over of the day. However, Biplab Samantray (72) strung useful partnerships of 36 and 49 with Basant Mohanty and Suryakant Pradhan respectively, but Odisha inevitably conceded a lead of 193 runs. Asked to bat again, Odisha got off to a shaky start for the second time in a match, losing Natraj Behera in the fourth over. They lost two more wickets inside the next 13 overs and slipped to 43 for 3. Left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt, who picked up four wickets in the first dig, accounted for opener Sandeep Pattanaik, Subhranshu Senapati, Saurabh Rawat and Abinash Saha to reduce Odisha to 81 for 6. It was then left to Samantray to mount another rescue mission, as he shared a 50-run partnership with Nayak. Eventually, Samantray finished on an unbeaten 112-ball 62 to ensure Odisha weren’t bowled out and got away with one point. Andhra’s three points, though, have taken them to second place on the standings behind Madhya Pradesh.

Nottingham Forest: Cooper Could Now Sign "Exemplary" £11m Titan

Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in Galatasaray centre-back Victor Nelsson, as Steve Cooper looks to bolster his side ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

The Reds must make sufficient changes this summer if they are to compete next term, with a firm first test away at Arsenal a good indicator to what the squad require to avoid another relegation battle.

One area that will need assistance is the defence, which could be improved if latest reports are to be believed.

What’s the latest on Victor Nelsson to Nottingham Forest?

As reported by renowned journalist Gianluca Di Marzio on Twitter, Forest have made contact with Turkish champions Galatasaray over the potential signing of Nelsson.

Di Marzio claims that contact is ‘ongoing’, confirming the Premier League side’s interest in the Danish defender.

Valued by FootballTransfers at €12.5m (£11m), Cooper could land himself a bargain in a player that was speculated in Turkey to be wanted by both Tottenham and Arsenal this window.

How good is Victor Nelsson?

The 24-year-old made 33 appearances in the Super Lig to heavily contribute to the Lions’ title-winning campaign, having a hand in 15 clean sheets in an impressive individual season.

Deployed in central defence, the Denmark international won 57% of his total duels in the league last term, averaging 4.5 duel wins per game to communicate his assured presence in the back line, via Sofascore.

Previously lauded as “exemplary” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, the defender could be warmly welcomed at the City Ground, in a move that could bolster the quality and future of Cooper’s squad.

Last season’s combination of Felipe and Moussa Niakhate was efficient for the Welshman, however with the Brazilian being 34 years of age and Niakhate currently nursing a dislocated elbow, Forest are short in central defence.

In Nelsson, the Reds could not only sign an eventual heir to the former Atletico Madrid man but also the ideal partner for the Senegalese titan in what could be a strong partnership at the back.

Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson.

One of the notable areas that the Danish whiz could implement into Cooper’s back line is his composure on the ball, as highlighted by his pass success rate of 85.7% per game.

A trait recognised in the best defences in the Premier League, Forest have lacked the comfort of fielding a centre-back comfortable in possession, suggested by Niakhate’s pass completion rate of 67.8% per 90, paired with Felipe’s 72.4%.

Introducing Nelsson to the side could bring the best out of the Senegal international, who could thrive in playing beside a defender with such swagger on the ball.

The two are similar in their approaches to protecting the goal, with their averages recorded in their respective league seasons suggesting that they could be a strong duo, with Nelsson averaging 0.8 tackles and 1.0 interceptions per game to the Forest man’s 1.39 tackles and 1.47 interceptions per 90.

Following the interest in the defender from north London, Forest could snatch themselves a highly-rated talent in the centre-back, in a deal that could be the difference at the back in the new campaign.

Chelsea Close To Move For Own Rice In 5 ft 10 Ace Who’s The "Genuine Article"

Despite Chelsea’s new hierarchy remaining in the infancy of its ownership, we have already become accustomed to its eccentric, ridiculous, and untameable transfer dealings.

Their hijack of Mykhailo Mudryk from Arsenal and the deadline-day swoop of Enzo Fernandez for a record-breaking fee of £106.8m in January appeared unbeatable in terms of drama and chaos.

But, this club is addicted to headlines and a realisation over the lack of midfield options has festered into a desperate spree that could see the Blues hit new heights in their spending…

Moises Caicedo is about to break Premier League history…

What’s the latest on Moises Caicedo to Chelsea?

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are ‘increasingly confident’ of getting the Caicedo deal done on Saturday, following a round of positive talks with Brighton.

Their official bid won’t be less than Liverpool's £110m bid that was submitted on Friday.

Read the latest Chelsea transfer news HERE…

The Reds had agreed to a fee with the Seagulls, but the midfielder informed all parties that he only wants to join the West London outfit.

Chelsea play Liverpool on Sunday and the former hope to unveil the combative Ecuadorean at Stamford Bridge – which would be antagonistic flex of their overwhelming financial muscle and unexplainable transfer pull.

Why would Moises Caicedo be a good signing for Chelsea?

Back in January 2021, Brighton made the assuming purchase of Caicedo for £4.5m from Independiente del Valle, and they set to make over £100m profit on a player with just 45 Premier League appearances.

But, the fact he’s amassed such an esteemed reputation in a short space of time is a testament to his elite quality.

Even before he featured in English football, Tim Vickery predicted the 21-year-old to have a glistening future, saying: “He is a terrific athlete who makes football look easy. A box-to-box midfielder.

"That kind of box-to-box midfielder that's very much in the tradition of the England game. Strong, quick, intelligent and cool. He really does look like the genuine article."

Caicedo has supported Vickery’s statement by tremendously excelling within his age group as last season, he won possession in the midfield third the most times (142) of any U21 player.

The £60k-per-week titan also deputised as an emergency right-back, starring in clean-sheet victories over Arsenal and Manchester United. This led to extraordinary praise from Roberto De Zerbi, who said that Caicedo is a “top, top player” that can “play everywhere.”

As recognition for his boundless versatility, consistency, and limitless potential, the 32-cap international was named Brighton’s Player of the Season for 2022/23.

If Mauricio Pochettino manages to complete this signing, it could be on the same level of importance and magnitude as Declan Rice to Arsenal.

Declan Rice Arsenal

Both players occupied formidably efficient defensive midfielder roles that impeccably protect the defence. Moreover, they are also blessed with supreme technical ability, which means they are two of the world’s most talented and accomplished pivots.

Caicedo and Rice rank very closely for pass completion per 90 (88.6% vs 86.4%), progressive passes per 90 (6.41 vs 6.64), and interceptions per 90 (1.56 vs 1.78) – these figures mean they rank within at least the highest 24% in Europe’s top five leagues among their positional peers for these metrics.

The 5 foot 10 ace would be a huge statement for Chelsea and he will target a long-lasting and trophy-laden legacy at the home of the two-time European Champions.

CSA opens investigations into processes of postponed GLT20

Cricket South Africa will launch an investigation of “broad scope” into the factors that led to the postponement of the T20 Global League last week. The first edition of the T20 Global League, originally scheduled to begin on November 3, was instead postponed to November 2018 due to numerous logistical challenges as well as the prospect of heavy financial losses.CSA said that the investigation, which was approved at a follow-up board meeting on October 15, is already underway.”The scope of the investigation will in principle cover the planning and execution of the T20 Global League with specific focus on, inter alia, aspects of governance, agreements concluded, payments, staff recruitment, authorisation and delegation of authority, league development strategy, decision making etc,” a board press release stated. “The Board shall await receipt of the findings emanating from the investigation, and thereafter consider its options going forward.”Difficulties in securing a stable television broadcast deal and central sponsorship had dogged the league, which was the brainchild of CSA’s recently-departed chief executive, Haroon Lorgat. Although CSA was in negotiations with local broadcaster Supersport, the rights figure was expected to have been substantially smaller than the $20 million deal the board had first hoped to sign, and there was uncertainty surrounding the arrangement even as the scheduled start drew closer. Further, CSA was anticipating a loss of $25 million (approx R342.58 million) in the first year, amounting to half of the board’s cash reserves, and expected losses of $6-8 million every year for the next five years, according to acting CEO Thabang Moroe. The planning of the league was also hampered by Lorgat’s decision to part ways with CSA in September. This came about partly because the board was unhappy with his actions in putting together the league.Following the postponement of the tournament, Moroe had said that the board took full responsibility for the situation and also admitted to the failure of the board’s system of checks and balances.”The board takes full responsibility in terms of everything that’s happened,” Moroe said. “The board took its trust and placed it in the hands of a few individuals and obviously not all the information that the board needed to have in order for the board to be comfortable enough to continue with this league, that information wasn’t forthcoming and some of it is still not forthcoming.”The board stated that it was committed to “credible and valid investigations” for the benefit of the league and for a successful tournament in 2018 and said that it would make no further media comments on the matter “in order to give space and time to the investigations to be conducted”.
