West Brom could sign their next Cedric Kipre for absolutely nothing

West Bromwich Albion have gone about their summer business to date in a rather understated fashion, with only three new bodies joining Carlos Corberan's ranks so far.

Only the capture of Scandinavian defender Torbjørn Heggem has taken somewhat of a chunk out of the Baggies bank account, with the 25-year-old joining the Championship outfit for a reported fee of £525k, to offer more depth at left-back and centre-back.

West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan.

Corberan won't be stopping there though with new recruits that could strengthen the back four in the West Midlands, however, with another centre-back reportedly on the agenda, as the Baggies become more and more accustomed to a future without Cedric Kipre next campaign and beyond.

West Brom looking to sign their next Kipre

According to a report by French outlet L'Equipe, West Brom are interested in clinching a deal for Saint-Etienne defender Mickael Nade, with another party from the Championship also interested in the Frenchman's services.

Sheffield Wednesday are the other club of note named as being keen on Nade, with the Owls already onto nine incomings this summer, so it remains to be seen what club the 25-year-old picks as his next home away from France.

What Nade can offer West Brom

The 25-year-old could be viewed as a natural successor to Kipre, who also played out in France as a youngster in the Paris St. Germain youth structure, with the dependable Baggies man absent from pre-season training and looking to move on.

Nade is also available on a free transfer, so adding him to the West Brom roster this summer feels like a risk-free swoop to a degree, as the 6 foot 1 defender attempts to find his feet in the English game, learning from the likes of the experienced Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi around him.

Being able to win a gem for £0 would soften the blow too of Kipre potentially exiting for nothing, with the West Brom number four's contract now expired at the Hawthorns, and no agreement has been met to extend that deal.

That will open up space for a new defender to come in and make the centre-back spot his own, offering competition to the likes of Heggem and Ajayi, and perhaps even coming out on top to become Bartley's partner in the heart of defence.

As can be seen watching the clip above of the 25-year-old in action, Nade could fill the gap left behind by Kipre in terms of being an imposing presence alongside one that is unafraid to get in amongst the goals, having scored five times from 79 Saint-Etienne first-team appearances.

Nade's performance against Rodez towards the back-end of the Ligue 2 season stood out, as Saint-Etienne won promotion back up to the top-flight, with his goal helping his team pick up a share of the points, whilst his switched-on presence at the back shut out many a Rodez attack.

The 6 foot 1 Baggies target has shades of Kipre's game present in his own, therefore, with the wantaway West Brom man notching up four goals from his 67 appearances for the club, alongside winning 4.2 duels on average per Championship clash last season.

He might find it a tricky transition acclimatising to the cut and thrust of English football, having only made 23 appearances last season in Ligue 2 despite performing valiantly when pushed into action, but West Brom remained patient with Kipre and he eventually came good.

In an ideal world, Corberan would be playing the 27-year-old week in week out this campaign to come, but the second tier club have plans in place to strengthen at the back now away from the former Wigan Athletic man.

West Brom must sell their wanted man who's worth more than Mowatt

West Bromwich Albion might look to cash in soon on this inconsistent dud.

The young Brazilian midfielder is yet to make an appearance for the Blues since officially signing for the club in January 2023. He was initially sent back to his former club Vasco da Gama on loan for the remainder of the 2022-23 season and then sent out on a short-term loan deal to Nottingham Forest in August 2023. His stay at Forest was shortlived as he was brought back to Stamford Bridge in January this year, however, he once again left the club on a third loan spell to Strasbourg which was further extended ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHELSEA?

The West London side, who are currently fifth in the league, will be next seen in action in the Premier League on Sunday as they take on Ruud van Nistelrooy's Manchester United in an important encounter.

Rangers target "quality" McLean alternative who’s won the Europa League

Glasgow Rangers slumped to a 2-1 friendly defeat at the weekend as preparations for the 2024/25 campaign get underway.

Only one summer signing featured in the Gers starting XI – Jefte – while Connor Barron and Liam Kelly made appearances from the bench, but it was hardly the most encouraging of results for the Ibrox side.

With just three weeks until the start of the Premiership campaign, Philippe Clement has yet to offload any of his high earners, while failing to really bring much experience to Rangers either.

Of course, he is limited in what he can spend this summer if he cannot raise funds through player sales, but time is running out and the Ibrox faithful fear that they might see some of the same underperformers from last season in the first match of the new term.

Several transfer targets were earmarked for moves to Ibrox, but they failed to materialise for the likes of Damian Garcia and Jose Córdoba a few weeks ago.

Although disappointing, it is perhaps an attempted move for a current Scotland international which could be one of Clement’s biggest failures this summer…

Rangers fall short of signing Scottish international

Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean emerged as one of Clement’s targets just a few weeks ago and a move for the player looked like a sensible one.

He featured 52 times for the Canaries last term as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League, but the Scot proved he was one of their most important players throughout the Championship season.

Norwich City'sKennyMcLean

Indeed, among his teammates, McLean ranked third for big chances created (seven), first for accurate passes per game (54.7), second for accurate long balls per game (4.2) and fourth for tackles per game (2), showing his quality across varying performance metrics.

In June, it was reported that the Light Blues were showing interest in McLean in a bid to add some experience to their midfield area. It is no secret that the player is a supporter of the Gers, which meant convincing him to join the club wouldn’t be an issue in the slightest.

With two years left on his contract, any potential move would have required Clement to pay a fee for the midfielder, yet at the start of July, a swoop for the Norwich City midfielder fell through due to a disagreement between the player and club surrounding wages and length of contract.

Although this is yet another transfer disappointment, might the Belgian forget about the 32-year-old by making a swoop for someone who played in La Liga last season?

Rangers eye move for perfect McLean alternative

According to Fabrizio Romano last week, Rangers had an offer rejected for Sevilla midfielder Joan Jordan, with the Spanish side not willing to pay any of his salary with regard to a potential loan agreement. As such, the deal looked dead in the water.

A fresh report from Seville-based insider Fernando Serrano claims that Rangers are set to make a new offer for the player, although the La Liga side won't be paying any more than 50% of his salary, which means the Gers will be forced to stump up a decent fee to bring him to the club.

In the past, the Gers have signed plenty of players for inflated wages, but Jordan could break the trend by offering some much-needed experience and class in the starting XI next season.

What Joan Jordan could offer Rangers

The 30-year-old has spent his entire career in his homeland, turning out for Espanyol, Real Valladolid, SD Eibar and most notably, Sevilla.

He has made over 300 club career appearances during that time period, scoring 21 goals and grabbing 23 assists. Playing at such a consistently high level in one of the best leagues in Europe proves that Clement should be doing all he can to lure the Spaniard to Glasgow this summer.

What the Light Blues need is a player who can control the game from the heart of the pitch, with the club regularly losing the midfield battles in important matches last term. According to WhoScored, Jordan’s main strength is his passing ability, which will come in handy next season should he join.

Last season, the Spaniard played just eight La Liga games, which was a surprise given that he had made 23 appearances in the same competition just a season before.

During the 2022/23 campaign, the 30-year-old averaged an 88% pass success rate across the entire term, along with making 1.4 tackles per game, losing possession just 7.1 times per match and winning 2.6 total duels per outing, hardly spectacular, but solid in a highly demanding league.

Rangers will make new bid for "complete" Ryan Jack replacement

The Light Blues have already failed with one offer for the central midfield talent.

ByDan Emery Jul 14, 2024

A loan move would be the best course of action for the midfielder, but it looks as though Clement still has some work to do in order to bring the experienced player to Glasgow.

Rangers Journal founder Kai Watson heaped praise on Jordan following the recent links with the player, saying: “I’ve watched a lot of Joan Jordán in the last twelve hours and I believe he would be a great loan signing.

“He would add quality and experience to a midfield that severely lack it currently. Almost 200 games for Sevilla and a two-time Europa League winner.”

Signing the likes of Barron, Clinton Nsiala and Jefte means the club are establishing a player-trading model which will allow Clement to make substantial profits on these young talents should they live up to their potential.

While Alan Hansen once famously said “you cant win anything with kids” in 1995 before Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson proved him wrong, Clement is in a different boat altogether.

At least three or four experienced signings are required between now and the end of the transfer window if the club want to qualify for the Champions League proper, thus bringing in a much-needed financial boost.

The next few weeks will be vital indeed in terms of new signings, as bedding players in ahead of the season could be vital for Clement.

Andrew Tye does the trick for Perth Scorchers as Sam Billings' 83 goes in vain

Earlier in the game, Colin Munro hit a half-century to help his team into what turned out to be an unassailable position

Peter Della Penna09-Jan-2021Sam Billings’ heroics in a thrilling chase ended in vain as AJ Tye’s death-bowling brilliance denied Sydney Thunder’s late rally from a perilous position to deliver a 17-run win for the Perth Scorchers on Saturday. Brendan Doggett took four wickets on season debut for the Thunder to help restrict the Scorchers after Colin Munro’s half-century followed a blistering Powerplay to begin the match but a rocky start to the chase ultimately doomed the Thunder’s efforts.Billings and Ben Cutting teamed up for an 83-run partnership to revive the Thunder innings from 46 for 4 after six overs. But Tye claimed both men in the final six overs, including a spectacular 19th that included the wicket of Billings to snuff out the last remaining batting threat as the Scorchers managed to hold on to defeat the Big Bash table leaders. BBL leading wicket-taker Jhye Richardson then iced off the tail to end with four wickets and claim Man of the Match honors.Andrew Tye was instrumental in the Scorchers winning a very tight game•Getty ImagesTop Doggett with the ballHaving ridden the bench for the first eight matches, Doggett finally got a chance in the XI in place of Arjun Nair. In four overs, he managed to surpass his entire contribution from the 2019-20 season when he scratched out just three wickets in eight matches.Coming on at first change in the third over, Doggett was effective at banging the ball in back of a length to claim a pair of English openers. Liam Livingstone was the first to fall, skying an attempted heave over midwicket that swirled behind the stumps to Billings. Doggett teamed up with Billings again five balls later when Jason Roy was defeated trying to swat him over cover.Doggett came close to dismissing Josh Inglis in his next over but a difficult one-handed chance at third man was shelled by Tanveer Sangha. However, Doggett claimed him two balls before the mid-innings break, spearing in a yorker to clatter middle stump. Doggett showed off his complete bag of tricks deceiving Mitchell Marsh in the 13th with a slower ball to round off his haul at 86 for 4.But the rest of the Thunder bowling unit failed to support Doggett’s efforts. Munro and captain Ashton Turner combined for a 55-run stand before Richardson and Aaron Hardie teamed for a stirring 14-ball stand of 31 as the Scorchers carved out 99 runs off the last 7.3 overs to go into the break with all the momentum.Top Billings with the batAfter Richardson claimed Usman Khawaja with a skier in the third over, Jason Behrendorff claimed Alex Hales and Callum Ferguson in back-to-back overs to stunt the Thunder reply. Behrendoff then helped enact a wild third wicket off his own bowling to end the sixth over when Alex Ross was run-out without facing a ball as the bowler hustled to square leg to deny a second run for Billings with a relay to Inglis, who was pulled away from the stumps before palming the ball on off a bounce to break the bails.Billings managed to settle down with Cutting afterward as the two fought back during a sensational stand. On a pitch that did little to assist spinners on the night, the English batsman targeted Fawad Ahmed in the 13th with back-to-back sixes heaved over long-on, followed by a two to bring up his 50 off 29 balls. He survived a close shave early in the 14th over, slashing Hardie just short of Richardson charging in from deep third man.Cutting mostly focused on turning over the strike during the stand but drove Hardie over cover and then flicked a full toss off his knees over square leg in the 14th to put pressure on the Scorchers attack. With 67 off the last six overs, the Power Surge was taken to start the 15th over and Billings began the sequence with a pair of boundaries against Tye before the Scorchers struck back.Tyed down at the finishHaving cut the equation down to a very manageable 57 off 34 balls, Cutting threw his wicket away by upper cutting a short ball to Livingstone at sweeper cover. Richardson continued to mitigate damage in the second over of the Power Surge when he had Nathan McAndrew flicking a full ball off his pads to deep midwicket, making it twice that the Thunder managed to pick out one of the only two boundary riders during the fielding restriction sequence.Billings punched back against Hardie in the 17th, whipping a length ball for six over the leg side followed by a full toss flicked behind square for another boundary in a 13-run over. A bouncer hooked for four over fine leg against Marsh in the 18th ended an 11-run over, sandwiched around the wicket of Chris Green, that left the match evenly balanced with 25 needed off 12 balls with just three wickets in hand.Tye then showed his value at the death by winning a duel with Billings. After thumping him in the chest with a short ball that Billings failed to scoop over fine leg, Tye speared in a wide yorker that Billings mistimed shuffling well outside off stump and the result was a drag on back onto the stumps to end his innings. Doggett could only manage one run off the rest of the 19th over, leaving 23 to get off Richardson. The BBL’s leading wicket-taker kept his cool, claiming Adam Milne with a bouncer before a yorker on the last ball wiped out Doggett.

Tipped to move: Arsenal linked to "unstoppable" £84m star who’s like Eze

The transfer window has been open for just over four weeks now, and aside from making David Raya's deal permanent and bringing in 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucas Nygaard, Arsenal have remained relatively quiet.

Now, while confirmed transfers have been hard to come by for the Gunners, they do seem close to securing Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori, and have been linked with plenty of stars, including England international Eberechi Eze.

The Crystal Palace ace would be an exciting addition to Mikel Arteta's squad, and interestingly, the latest player touted for a move to the club has been compared to him in the past.

Arsenal transfer news

According to a recent report from Football Transfers, Arsenal are one of two sides tipped to land Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this summer.

Napoli forwardKhvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The report has revealed that the Georgian international's former coach, Gela Davitadze, has named the Gunners and Manchester City the two most suitable destinations for the incredible winger in the coming weeks.

However, the potential interest of City is not the only obstacle Edu Gaspar and Co would have to contend with to land the 23-year-old, as the story claims any move would cost in excess of €100m, which converts to around £84m.

Signing Kvaratskhelia may prove to be extremely challenging and expensive, but given how well he's played in recent seasons and at the Euros this summer, it may be the kind of statement transfer Arsenal need to make, and the comparisons to Eze are certainly a bonus.

How Kvaratskhelia compares to Eze

So, before looking at how well Kvaratskhelia has played over the last couple of seasons, let's examine this comparison to Eze and where it has come from.

Eberechi Eze celebrates for Crystal Palace

It originates from FBref, which compares players in similar positions across Europe's top five leagues and creates a list of the ten most similar players for everyone. In this case, they consider the Palace star the seventh most comparable attacking midfielder or winger to the Georgian.

The best way to see the areas where the two stars overlap is to look at their most similar underlying numbers.

However, it's not just the similarities to the former Queens Park Rangers star that would make the "unstoppable" winger, as talent scout Jacek Kulig dubbed him, such a great signing.

He's also been in fine form for Napoli over the last couple of years.

In 2022/23, he scored 14 goals and provided 17 assists as the Partenopei won their first league title in the 21st century, while last season, he racked up 11 goals and nine assists in 45 games for the Italian giants.

Ultimately, Kvaratskhelia has shown more than enough quality over the last few seasons to justify the price tag on his head, and if Arsenal really want to make a statement this summer, then signing him would be the ideal way to do that – and the comparisons to Eze are a wonderful bonus.

Rangers could land lethal Igamane partner who scored 26 times last season

Head of recruitment Nils Koppen has been hard at work to improve the Glasgow Rangers playing squad during the summer transfer window, which officially opened for business earlier this month.

The Light Blues have wasted little time as they have already brought in a number of fresh signings to bolster Philippe Clement's options across the park.

Brazilian left-back Jefte, central defender Clinton Nsiala, and central midfielder Connor Barron have all been snapped up, whilst Mohammed Diomande's loan has been turned into a permanent deal, and Oscar Cortes has signed on a second loan, with an obligation to make it permanent next summer.

German forward Yusuf Kabadayi is said to be in advanced talks over a £1m switch from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich to add to the club's wide options.

The Scottish giants are also reportedly set to sign Morocco U23 international Hamza Igamane on a permanent deal from FAR Rabat for a fee of £1.5m.

Clement could land a lethal partner for the Moroccan talent by signing a more experienced Scottish Premiership performer to play alongside him next season.

Rangers' interest in Premiership marksman

Back in May, FOTMob reported that the Gers are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Aberdeen centre-forward Bojan Miovski this summer.

The outlet claimed that the Light Blues are one of the teams closely monitoring his situation with the Scottish side, as five sides have a 'serious' interest in him.

Celtic, Bologna, Southampton, and Feyenoord are the other four outfits eyeing up a potential deal to sign the North Macedonia international, who was lauded as "complete" by journalist Josh Bunting, ahead of next season.

Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski.

The report revealed, however, that the Dons marksman's preference is to secure a move to the Premier League this summer, which would hand the Saints an advantage after they won the play-off final to be promoted to the top-flight last month.

It also claimed that Celtic are ahead of Rangers in this particular transfer race due to their qualification for the group stages of next season's Champions League.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not the Hoops are prepared to push ahead with a deal for the left-footed attacker and there could still be a chance for the Gers to swoop in if their rivals look elsewhere.

If the Scottish giants are able to strike a deal with Aberdeen to sign the 24-year-old dynamo then they could land a dream partner for Igamane, who looks set to join on a permanent deal in the coming weeks, next term.

Why Hamza Igamane could need a strike partner

The 21-year-old talent is poised to move away from his home country of Morocco for the first time in his career and it remains to be seen whether or not he will be able to hit the ground running in Scotland.

Igamane has no experience of European or Scottish football and that is a barrier that he has to overcome in order to be a success for the Gers.

Rangers may not, therefore, be able to bank on him as their first-choice centre-forward straight away, as it would be a gamble to expect him to instantly perform.

He is also a versatile attacker who has played out wide on both flanks and through the middle as an attacking midfielder in his career to date.

This suggests that Clement could utilise him in other roles around Miovski in order to slowly bed him into life in Scotland, as he could play out on the wing or behind the Aberdeen star as a number ten whilst he is still growing and gaining experience in the division.

As you can see in the table above, Igamane showcased his ability as both a scorer and a creator of goals from a centre-forward position during the 2023/24 campaign.

The 21-year-old ace, who has scored 16 goals in 58 matches for FAR Rabat at first-team level, also completed 1.9 successful dribbles per game in the division, whilst no Gers player managed more than 1.3 per outing in the Premiership.

This suggests that he is a direct player who likes to take opposition defenders on and this, coupled with his ability to provide assists for his teammates, could make him an effective foil for Miovksi as he could drive from deep or out wide, as a number ten or winger, before providing the striker with key passes.

Why Bojan Miovski could be a lethal partner for Hamza Igamane

Firstly, the left-footed star is a proven Premiership performer who could come in and be an instant success on the pitch, as he has already shown off his quality at that level.

This means that Miovski could come in as the first-choice number nine for the Gers and be realistically expected to hit the ground running in the division, which would immediately take pressure off Igamane's shoulders, instead of him being expected to fire in the goals straight off the bat.

The 24-year-old dynamo, who scored 26 goals in all competitions for Aberdeen last season, has smashed in 32 goals across his first two seasons in the Premiership with the Scottish outfit.

This shows that he knows how to find the back of the net at an impressive rate in the top-flight and could be a reliable scoring option for Clement, which would then allow Igamane the time he needs to develop and improve, and provide the youngster with a fantastic striker to play alongside and learn from.

As you can see in the table above, Miovski scored as many goals as Rangers striker Cyriel Desers in the Premiership last season, but his efficiency was significantly more impressive.

Despite scoring the same number of goals, the Nigeria international missed a staggering 12 more 'big chances' and had a much lower conversion rate.

This suggests that Miovski could have thrived and outperformed Dessers if he had the service that the former Cremonese man had in a Gers shirt.

Therefore, the North Macedonia international could be a lethal addition to the Rangers squad and a dream partner for Igamane at Ibrox next term.

Crystal Palace make contact over move for £25m forward who Odegaard loves

Crystal Palace and sporting director Dougie Freedman have now made contact with the agents of a £25m-rated forward to replace Michael Olise.

Crystal Palace transfer latest

The Eagles haven’t wasted any time in making preparations ahead of Oliver Glasner’s first full season at Selhurst Park, making centre-back Chadi Riad the first signing of the Glasner era. Speaking after completing his move earlier this month, the Morocco international said:

“I’m really happy to join Crystal Palace. I was interested in coming here because of the history of the club, and the league in which it plays. They have been telling me how they played this year and I think it complements perfectly the way I play. The club has high-level players who are young and I have come here to follow their same trajectory, to grow as they have grown.”

Next on course to arrive in London is Daichi Kamada, with the Japanese attacking midfielder set to be announced at the beginning of July. He was a free agent after leaving Lazio and has reportedly penned a two-year deal with Palace.

Alongside the incomings, there looks set to be at least one big outgoing, with Olise appearing to be close to a move to Bayern Munich. A deal worth more than £50m has been agreed with the Bundesliga giants, now managed by Vincent Kompany, with Palace in line to make a huge profit on the 22-year-old.

A replacement will be needed for the talented Olise, and it looks as if Palace have made the first move in acquiring one specific forward.

Crystal Palace make Antonio Nusa contact

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Crystal Palace, and by extension Freedman, have been in contact with the representatives of Club Brugge forward Antonio Nusa over the last 48 hours.

Nusa is thought to be “top of the list at Crystal Palace” and is valued at €30m (£25m), with Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen also eyeing the situation.

This isn’t the first time the 19-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with a move to Tottenham falling through back in January. Brentford have also been name-checked as suitors for Nusa in 2024, but it appears as if Palace could be the side that secure his services this summer.

Primarily a left-winger who can also play on the right or as a second striker, Nusa is a Norway international and has made 82 senior appearances for his current club, scoring seven times and providing five assists.

That isn’t exactly a prolific return, but he has come in for plenty of praise from Norway teammate and Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, who said previously:

“Fantastic! He is an incredibly exciting player. You see it every time he gets the ball, it’s exciting. He is still young and will get even better. It was cool to see him. He deserved to get the chance that he takes to such an extent. Incredibly cool.”
