Botafogo resolve pendências do ano passado, e Luís Oyama assina contrato com o clube

Tudo no papel. Luís Oyama é jogador do Botafogo novamente.

Tottenham now want to sign £20m+ player who Chelsea have enquired for

Tottenham Hotspur have now joined Chelsea in the race to sign one of La Liga’s most exciting new talents, according to a fresh report, as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his attacking ranks.

Spurs sweep Manchester City aside

In arguably one of the biggest shocks of the Premier League so far, Tottenham ripped through a sorry Manchester City at the Etihad with a brace from James Maddison helping Postecoglou’s side to a 4-0 win against the reigning champions.

It is the first time in Pep Guardiola’s managerial career that he has lost five games in a row, with Spurs also having beaten them in the League Cup earlier in the month. But where that was against a largely second string City XI, this was against their strongest side, albeit with a raft of injuries.

Better still, it was Spurs who dominated the game, with Manchester City having just five efforts on target across the 90 minutes despite shading the possession.

It comes following disappointing defeats against struggling duo Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace, neither of whom had won in the Premier League this season before meeting Tottenham but was a stark reminder that, at their best, Spurs are able to compete against the biggest sides in the world under Postecoglou.

“You have to be [clinical]. They won’t give you too many opportunities. There was a calmness and maturity about how we handled the ball. Against City you can get spooked and don’t want to play against them. But you have to play”, Postecoglou explained after the game.

“They test you in every way – mentally, physically, tactically. Our flat spots have been really flat and something we need to eradicate. We’re a much better team this year than last year. We just need to find consistency.”

But Tottenham are still in the midst of reshaping their squad to provide extra options for Postecoglou and have now reportedly set their eyes on a new attacking midfielder.

Tottenham to rival Chelsea for La Liga sensation

Now, reports in Spain claim that Spurs have joined the race to sign Getafe rising star Christantus Uche, who has enjoyed a flying start to his La Liga career.

The 21-year-old only joined Getafe in the summer, but has already become a key player for the club, starting 13 of his side’s 14 La Liga outings and even grabbing a goal in the process.

Playing further forward for Getafe, often as an attacking midfielder or false nine, he is a central midfielder by trade but ScoutedFootball dubbed him “versatile” and a “fascinating” talent on X.

Chelsea have already made an enquiry for his services, but now Tottenham are among the clubs chasing the 21-year-old, who has a €25m (£20.7m) release clause in his contract with the Spanish side.

Spurs have “shown strong interest in signing the Nigerian”, who Getafe are not willing to sell but would be powerless should his release clause be met.

Any deal is more likely to happen in the summer, but Spurs have already shown that they are willing to sign younger talent with the likes of Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert both arriving last summer. Could Uche be the next?

Rangers star proved he’s "the player we knew he could be" vs Tottenham

Four Lads Had A Dream have paid special praise to one “excellent” Rangers player after his performance in his side’s 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham.

Rangers impress in Spurs draw

The Gers faced a big test of their European credentials on Thursday evening, as Spurs made the trip to Rangers for an important Europa League clash at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement’s Rangers side more than held their own on the night, taking the lead through Hamza Igamane, only to be pegged back by a Dejan Kulusevski’s strike with time running out. The draw leaves the Scottish Premiership giants sitting eighth in the table, remaining level on points with Spurs and still having a good chance of reaching the knockout stages.

The big games continue to come thick and fast for the Gers, whose next assignment sees them take on rivals Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday afternoon. Victory at Hampden Park would not only earn them bragging rights, but also take some pressure off the shoulders of Clement.

There were plenty of Rangers players who shone against Spurs on Thursday, as the hosts had 15 shots compared to the Premier League side’s tally of 12, and one player has come in for particular praise.

"Excellent" Rangers player hailed v Spurs

Taking to X, Four Lads Had A Dream lauded the performance of Nicolas Raskin in Rangers’ draw with Spurs, describing him as “the player we knew he could be”.

The positive reviews coming Raskin’s way are fully deserved, with the 23-year-old producing a superb performance in the middle of the park against top-class opposition. The Rangers midfielder completed 91% of his passes at Ibrox, according to Sofascore, as well as winning six out of eight ground duels and making four interceptions to go with three clearances.

Raskin is going to be an important player for Rangers as the season goes on, both domestically and in Europe, with Kenny Miller once describing him as “excellent”.

The Belgian provides both technical quality and tenacity in midfield, as highlighted by an average of 3.3 tackles and 1.3 dribbles per match in the Scottish Premiership so far this season.

At 23, Raskin is still such a young player who is still learning his trade, having arrived from Standard Liege last year, and there is no reason why he can’t continue to mature into one of Rangers’ most important players in the coming years.

    WHAT HAPPENED?

According to a report by SPORT, the Brazilian winger intends to ask for a pay rise. He is currently one of Los Blancos' highest-paid stars, and is on the same terms as fellow superstars Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham. Under contract until 2027, Vinicus wants to extend his deal until 2029, in return for a substantial hike in his wages.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

It's unlikely that Florentino Pérez will cave to his demands, despite wanting the player to stay at the club. Rumours of a €1 billion (£840m) offer from Saudi Arabia will likely intensify. Real Madrid would consider a transfer fee in excess of €250m (£209m/$273m). If Vinicius forces the club's hand, it is believed they will pursue the services of Wirtz or Williams.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Vini Jr. has continued to excel for Real Madrid. The 24-year-old has contributed 18 goals and 11 assists in his 39 appearances for Los Blancos this season.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR VINICIUS JR?

Vinicius Jr.'s attention turns to international duty, as Brazil take on Colombia in a World Cup qualifier later this evening. The Seleção face against their oldest rival, Argentina, on the 25th March.

Bid already rejected: Newcastle can land the next Tonali in £13m "monster"

Newcastle United have been riding the crest of a winter wave over the festive period, utterly mesmerising in their rekindled attacking energy.

The high-class talent at Eddie Howe’s disposal appears to be conducive to success as one of the Premier League’s most exciting outfits, and indeed, even though unrelenting injuries disrupted United’s 2023/24 campaign, they still created chances with frightening consistency.

Newcastle might be flying high right now, but they haven’t exactly been flawless throughout the campaign. It’s been patchy until this recent purple patch, and now it’s all about sustaining it.

With Kieran Trippier, 34, rumoured to be on the move next month, the Magpies could benefit from signing a new right-back to rival Tino Livramento, and PIF appear to have identified the perfect option.

Newcastle transfer news

As reported earlier this week by Italian outlet FirenzeViola, Newcastle could come into the picture for Fiorentina’s Michael Kayode in 2025, having already seen an offer rejected for the right-back over the summer

Fiorentina defender Michael Kayode

Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are also said to have bids rebuffed for the up-and-coming star – who had been valued at €30m (£25m) – yet the Serie A side may now be open to offloading the youngster.

Kayode is frustrated at his lack of game time this season but this snag hasn’t dissuaded unnamed English parties, who view the 20-year-old as a top talent who could be willed into a sensation over the coming years.

Why Newcastle want Michael Kayode

Though it’s right that Trippier moves on for pastures new at this twilit part of his storied career, it’s clear that Livramento lacks the kind of playmaking prowess that contributed instrumentally to United’s creative spark last season.

Newcastle's Kieran Trippier

That’s not to say that Kayode is an assist machine. The young ace differs from the English veteran, averaging 0.6 key passes per game in Serie A last season, as per Sofascore. However, he also averaged four ball recoveries per game, completing 87% of his passes and winning 63% of his ground duels.

Analyst and keen Serie A viewer Ben Mattinson hailed the defender as a “duel monster,” with his defensive quality something to be admired given his age and comparative inexperience.

As per FBref, Kayode ranked among the top 12% of Serie A full-backs last season for tackles won (2.32) per 90, so you can really see that the protective part of the job is something that he embraces.

That’s not to say that Kayode lacks in other departments, with his pace and power also suggesting that he could shape into a complete player over the coming years. He needs a platform to build upon, and Newcastle could offer him the perfect one.

Michael Kayode tussling with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

Given that the Tynesiders have found a pleasing degree of success in the Italian transfer market with the resurgent Sandro Tonali, this might be a deal worth pursuing.

Howe's next Sandro Tonali

Newcastle’s neck of the woods hasn’t always been a place of prosperity, but there’s no doubting the ambition that has rewritten the club’s narrative over the past several years.

Howe’s system has married into PIF’s vision without seam, and though United have been pulled back multiple times by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, shrewd investments and resourceful methods have allowed Newcastle to keep a hold of their prized assets.

Newcastle United manager EddieHowebefore the match

However, recent reports suggest that Tonali could be on the move at the end of the season, with Serie A sides keen on completing a deal and the Toon potentially forced to comply so to avoid the latest wave of PSR concerns.

Keeping Tonali on the books is important, for the 24-year-old has “changed the whole dynamic of the team” – as per Sky Sports’ Keith Downie – in recent weeks due to his fine form in the deep-sat midfield position, controlling and influencing.

He’s got an air of style about him, carried over from the Italian scene, and this is why Newcastle must forge ahead with the signing of Kayode, who would certainly seek to emulate his countryman at St. James’ Park.

Fiorentina president Daniel Prade even hailed him as an “extraordinary” prospect last term, while his former boss Vincenzo Italiano praised him for being an up-and-comer who “fears nothing.”

Tottenham Hotspur target Michael Kayode in action for Fiorentina.

If such boldness can be translated to life on English shores, there’s every chance that Kayode will indeed find a place in Newcastle’s first team, strengthening the Italian contingent and adding even more flair to an outfit starting to remould itself with Tonali in the middle.

Newcastle saw a bid rejected for Kayode in the summer and have since replenished their interest. It feels like the stars could align regarding this one, especially since he’s out of sorts with Fiorentina, who have slashed their asking price to a bargain €15m (£13m), as per the earlier report.

He would provide relief for Livramento and perhaps even forge a bond with his compatriot Tonali, who has recently operated at number six but typically picks a place on the right edge of the central midfield.

Only time will tell, but with Premier League rivals also sniffing around, Newcastle must act swiftly to secure the signing of an exciting talent.

Spinner backs up first-innings five-for as on-loan teen Jacob Bethell impresses in Gloucestershire’s second innings

Somerset steamrollered Gloucestershire’s patched-up team to complete a record-breaking LV= County Championship victory by an innings and 246 runs inside three days at Bristol. It was the Cider county’s biggest ever margin of victory over their arch-rivals, which was previously by an innings and 170 at Taunton back in 1893, a match in which WG Grace featured for the visitors.Gloucestershire, without injured skipper Graeme van Buuren, were bowled out for 186 in their first innings from an overnight 119 for 4, Jack Leach finishing with 5 for 49 from 25.4 overs. There was no respite for a home side including three new loan signings when they followed on 405 behind beneath cloudless skies. Leach completed match figures of 8 for 90, while teenager Jacob Bethell hit 61 in a total of 159.Somerset took 23 points to Gloucestershire’s one and have now reeled off successive victories after losing their first three Championship fixtures. With van Burren nursing a shoulder injury sustained in the field on day two, Somerset needed only five wickets at the start of the day to wrap up their opponents’ first innings.Bethell, on a one-match loan to Gloucestershire from Warwickshire, began with a sweet on-drive for four off Craig Overton and followed up with another boundary in the same over. There was concern for Somerset when Overton was forced off by a twinge in his left knee, but the England all-rounder was able to return to bowl at the end of the innings.Josh Davey made the breakthrough for Somerset with the total on 144, rapping Ryan Higgins on the back pad and pinning him lbw for 31, before quickly having Zafar Gofar taken at slip.Lewis Gregory uprooted Zak Chappell’s middle stump and the impressive Bethell fell leg-before on the back foot to Leach for 37 as Gloucestershire lurched to 152 for 8.Last pair Matt Taylor and Brad Wheal offered some resistance, taking the total to 186 for 8 at lunch. Taylor finished 24 not out when Wheal fell lbw to a ball from Leach that appeared to keep low.Gloucestershire’s second innings had reached 24 in the ninth over when George Scott edged Peter Siddle straight to James Hildreth at second slip.Marcus Harris fell on the same total, miscuing a pull shot off Overton and skying a catch to Tom Lammonby at mid-on. It was 28 for 3 when Miles Hammond nicked a ball from Davey through to wicketkeeper Steve Davies.Higgins was caught behind for 16 trying to force Gregory off the back foot and by tea Gloucestershire were in disarray at 74 for 4.Bethell had again given a lesson in technique to more experienced colleagues. But any hopes of a recovery disappeared in the over after the interval when James Bracey swept Leach and Tom Abell took an outstanding catch, one-handed above his head at backward square leg.Luck continued to desert injury-plagued Gloucestershire as Bethell slipped when called for a quick single off Leach by Zafar Gohar, who was forced to turn back and failed to beat Abell’s throw to the bowler’s end.Chappell was bowled off an inside edge for 20 by Overton, who then took a low catch at second slip off Leach to remove Taylor.Bethell’s mature batting in a crisis brought him a deserved half-century off 84 balls, with eight fours. But when he swept Leach into the hands of Lammonby at deep square, Somerset celebrated an overwhelming success.

'It's exciting the mix we'll have' – Matthew Mott keen for new England management group to get going

Matthew Mott, England’s new white-ball coach, believes the coaching set-up appointed by the ECB is an “exciting” one, and is looking forward to working with Brendon McCullum, his Test counterpart, and Rob Key, the managing director of men’s cricket.Mott was unveiled earlier this week, having spent seven years in charge of Australia’s highly successful women’s team. With England’s men currently ranked No. 2 in both ODI and T20 cricket, playing to a clearly defined philosophy honed under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan, Mott said he saw parallels with his previous job.Related

Australia’s women were reigning 50-over and T20 world champions when Mott took charge, although they lost both titles before going on to reestablish themselves as the dominant force, winning back-to-back World T20s in 2018 and 2020 before going unbeaten through this year’s ODI World Cup.”There is a lot of similarities and that’s certainly what we spoke about in the interview process,” Mott told SEN WA radio. “I took over a very successful team when I started and to be honest we almost seemed to be going backwards for a little bit. It wasn’t until the 2017 World Cup [when Australia lost at the semi-final stage] that we had to really start from scratch. It was the pivotal moment for that team, they had to come up with some solutions on why we were being timid under pressure, and it was the playing group themselves who got together.”His coaching style is likely to resonate with the players who have thrived under Morgan in limited-overs cricket, culminating in a maiden men’s 50-over World Cup success in 2019. “When I look at a player now I try to forget about the barriers around their game and try instil confidence that they take the game on,” Mott said. “Free the players up, let them enjoy themselves, and help them when they fall down.”With England’s Test team set to be the priority, Mott has already been told by Key that he “may not get your best side” at times. However, Mott already has a good working relationship with McCullum, having spent time together with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, and he said he was keen to get together alongside Key and map out the road ahead.”Just the way the schedule looks – I haven’t looked too far into the next two or three years – but it will be a little like ships in the night. England play a lot of cricket in the next 12 months. Initially I’ll get over there and try to spend some time with him in London, and Rob Key, to try and get through the plan.”I have a great relationship with Brendon, I worked with him at KKR and he was pretty close to getting me to New Zealand a few years ago. We are very different people. It’s exciting the mix we’ll have, especially Rob, myself and Brendon with three really good, different ideas coming in.”Mott also admitted that England splitting the coaching roles had been a factor in his decision to apply. Australia have just appointed Andrew McDonald as head coach for the men’s team across all formats, but Mott said he would not have relished such a demanding workload.”Different systems have different needs,” he said. “What I will say is what attracted me to this role was the fact it was split. Family is really important to me and the idea of being on the road for 11 months wasn’t going to be a thing I’d really enjoy. For me it will be great to go back and watch some county cricket [Mott previously coached Glamorgan], get to know some of the fringe players, I think that’s important for me.”As for leading England in a T20 World Cup on Australian soil later this year, Mott said that parking his allegiances would not be an issue.”Coaching is one of those games where there’s only a few positions at the right time. I’ll wish well to the Australian cricket team, I coached a lot of those guys at New South Wales and love seeing them do well. Ben Sawyer, our assistant coach, said this when we talked about franchise cricket, you’ve just got to love the one you’re with. When I’m in there I’ll be trying to do everything I can to win cricket matches and leave some sort of legacy when I do move on.”

MS Dhoni: Matheesha Pathirana 'is an excellent death bowler'

The Super Kings captain believes the Sri Lankan’s low release gives him a greater margin for error

Sidharth Monga15-May-20222:36

Vettori: Pathirana is an even more extreme version of Malinga

Lasith Malinga’s last ball in the IPL was a bewitching slower ball to trap Shardul Thakur lbw and defend one run off the final ball of an IPL final. Three years later, Baby Malinga, Matheesha Pathirana, trapped Shubman Gill lbw with his first ball in the IPL.A similar low release, accuracy with the yorker, and a slower one gave Pathirana figures of 3.1-0-24-2 on debut, which included wickets of Gill and Hardik Pandya. His captain MS Dhoni – the captain at the receiving end of Malinga’s sorcery in 2019 – was impressed with what he saw. Having faced Malinga for so long, and also Pathirana in the nets, he should know.Related

“He is an excellent death bowler,” Dhoni told . “A bit similar to Malinga. Also what happens with his action, the margin of error for him is quite big. With a slingy action he doesn’t get a lot of bounce. Which means even if he commits an error of one yard, it is not like it will hit the middle of the bat. It wouldn’t bounce a lot.”Also with his action it is slightly difficult to pick. And he has got that slower one also. So you have to watch him very carefully. Which means when you spend those extra seconds watching the ball and he is bowling at a decent pace, it becomes quite difficult to consistently hit him.”ESPNcricinfo LtdSuper Kings coach Stephen Fleming was more reserved in his praise but excited to work with Pathirana. “We were really looking forward to him playing today,” Fleming said at the post-match press conference. “And he obviously got success immediately. He is very young. We know who he has similarities with, which is big shoes to fill. But he had a great debut. We are very pleased for him. It’s a unique skill, isn’t it? Learning to coach that and how to use that is one of the challenges. But it was great for him to get a game for us today.”Pathirana might have similarities with Malinga but his is an even more difficult action. “I think he is an even more extreme example of Malinga,” Daniel Vettori said on ESPNcricinfo’s analysis show T20 Time:Out. “He sort of reaches back and doesn’t even look like he is looking at the target. Whereas Malinga felt like he still had his eyes on what he is doing. But he obviously caught batsmen by surprise. Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya are quality players.”That surprise element still comes from the ball coming from a completely different angle to the one you are used to. His accuracy was good enough and once he adds those variations he can be the sort of bowler who disrupts the T20 game. I don’t think he is ever going to be an economical-type bowler but he can certainly come back, take wickets and put the fear of god into some tailenders.”Super Kings signed Pathirana up as a replacement for the injured Adam Milne, which means he’s currently only contracted for this season, but if Fleming is excited about working with Pathirana, there could be plans to retain him.Piyush Chawla believes it will be the right move. “To be very honest when you see one or two games, you don’t look at performance but you look at temperament and talent,” Chawla said. “He actually showed he has the talent. You can always give him more time and he can play accordingly. Just make sure he is attending those camps early and coming to play those practice matches early. So he showed the temperament and skill that yes, he belongs. Obviously with time he will improve when he adds more variation to his skills. So he will definitely be a better bowler.”‘He sort of reaches back and doesn’t even look like he is looking at the target’ – Vettori on Pathirana’s action•BCCIPathirana’s impressive debut does raise the question of whether he could have been tried sooner. Vettori certainly felt so. “The way they used [Dwaine] Pretorius for an extended period of time and then [Dwayne] Bravo had some injuries, [Chris] Jordan and Milne early on… So he was certainly the last cab off the rank. Potentially when they are out of the tournament you would have thought someone like him could have been thrown into the mix just to see what he could do. Tonight he showed he can be effective at this high level.”Vettori perhaps meant to say Pathirana could have been tried when Super Kings had only an academic chance and not when they were well and truly out. Now that they are properly out of the tournament, Super Kings have gone to the extent of giving players chances at the expense of having the ideal combination in the middle. An example of that was promoting N Jagadeesan ahead of Shivam Dube.”We could have pushed Shivam up the order but that defeats the purpose of giving Jaggi a game,” Dhoni said. “If it was a tactical decision proper, midway into the tournament, we would have pushed the left-hander up the order. But we wanted Jaggi to have some time in the middle.”We will try to give guys ample time in the middle. At times when you are at this stage you feel, oh, you want to win one more game, but at the same time you want to give a chance to guys who we haven’t been able to feature in the XI. Still try to pick a good XI. Not like we are playing a lopsided XI. But in the coming game also we will look to do that.”

Kulusevski 2.0: Spurs target unreal Maddison upgrade in £40m "diamond"

As it was last year, this season has been a roller coaster for Tottenham Hotspur fans.

One week, the North Londoners look like the best team in the country and are pulling apart the Premier League champions 4-0, and then the next, they lose at home to winless Ipswich Town.

Ange Postecoglou has turned his side into great entertainers but has not been able to address their problems with consistency, and were it not for the incredible Dejan Kulusevski, things could be looking a lot worse at the moment.

So, fans should be excited about recent reports linking them to a player who could mirror the Swede’s journey to Spurs and be an incredible upgrade on James Maddison as well.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Caught Offside, Tottenham are one of several top-flight teams keen on signing Belgian sensation Charles De Ketelaere.

Charles De Ketelaere for Atalanta.

Alongside the Lilywhites, the report claims that Liverpool, West Ham United, Arsenal, Newcastle United, Manchester City and Aston Villa are all interested in the Atatlanta star.

This number of top sides vying for the talented playmaker is undoubtedly far from ideal for the North Londoners, but the good news is that the story claims he is valued at just £40m, which could prove to be a real bargain for someone of his quality.

It could still be a complicated transfer to get over the line, but given De Ketelaere’s sensational ability, it’s one worth pursuing, especially as he could be the next Kulusevski and would be an upgrade on Maddison.

De Ketelaere's comparisons to Kulusevski & Maddison

So, before we look at how De Ketelaere stacks up against Maddison, it’s worth examining the reasons his signing would mirror that of Kulusevski’s.

Former Juventus forward Dejan Kulusevski.

The first is that, like the Swedish international, the Atalanta star would be making his way over from Serie A, akin to the Lilywhites star’s move from Juventus in 2022.

The second, more meaty point of comparison is that, like the Stockholm-born star, the Belgian gem is an incredibly talented attacker who can, and has, played everywhere from centre-forward to the wings and all over midfield.

Lastly, like Kulusevski, the former Club Brugge prospect is just an incredibly entertaining player to watch and has that increasingly rare ability to get fans off their seats with a sublime piece of skill, unreal goal or pinpoint pass.

With that said, as he’s spent most of this season playing in an attacking midfield role, the “wonderful” talent, as dubbed by journalist Dougie Critchley, would likely come in as competition for Maddison were to move to N17, and unfortunately for the Englishman, we reckon he’d displace him, and quite easily at that.

For example, in just 23 appearances this season, the 23-year-old “diamond”, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has scored eight goals and provided nine assists, equating to a sensational average of a goal involvement every 1.35 games for the Bergamo outfit.

In contrast, the former Leicester City star has scored seven goals and provided five assists in as many games, equating to an average of a goal involvement every 1.91 games.

Finally, Postecoglou would be able to rely on the Brugge-born dynamo more than his current co-vice-captain, as the most games he’s missed in a single season through injury is just ten, which is a far cry from the Englishman’s spotty fitness record.

Ultimately, while Maddison is an unbelievably gifted footballer, De Ketelaere just looks to be even more so, and considering his valuation isn’t outrageous, Daniel Levy and Co should be doing all they can to bring him to N17.
